Forget last campaign blues with just a single shield won and seeing their cross-country foes winning the league shield after an unsuccessful defense of their hard won title in 2016, seeing a stop of three consecutive league shields won.
Still this campaign the Town side reinforced itself with new players and once again was ready to put on a contest to the defending champions Cork City who won the league and the FAI Cup in 2017.
That was then and this campaign we are seeing a surge in the end of the league coming to its near final and with six matches left in the campaign anything can happen despite the Lilywhites current six point lead.
With next weeks with internal cup compromises in the FAI and Leinster Senior Cup competitions, this will take a little stress of the Town until their return to league play on September 21 at Turners Cross against who else than Cork City.
As this match will for sure decide the faith of the Town and Rebel Army in the overall standings, however the Town side with a loss will continue with three-point edge or a win for sure will sentence the outlook of this league to be champions.
For Dundalk the remainder schedule playing against Derry City, Pats, Waterford, Sligo Rovers and Bohemians to wrap this challenging and maybe rewarding campaign for Stephen Kenny and his Lilywhites.
Despite some successful runs in the campaigns with the above-mentioned squads, the outcome of a spoiler can come anytime and from any of the squads that already eliminated from contention these can play the hideous role of spoilers.
As you, recall last week loss against the Shamrock Rovers a win would put them in complete control of their destiny but the Hoops denied that privilege and defeated them in what seemed a very strange and controversial play in the end.
In spite of losing their winning form stopping in thirteen games running with perfection, in the end for Kenny and company is business as usual in the end and looking forward to claim what is theirs in the league shield and maybe other trophies for grabs.
For Dundalk as the league approaches its final stages so the need to play with their best game is imperative as they do not have to underestimate their competition and displaying signs of complacency in the end.
For a squad filled with multiple weapons in its initial eleven the most difficult and tough part of the campaign is left behind and now focus on the big prize and closing with a successful run will culminate a campaign worthy of shield.
As they are aware of the levels of competition stepping up on the finals months of the league and the need to deliver in every match will be imperative if they would like to hoist the cup in the end of this campaign.
