They’re up and running, as the League of Ireland opening
day finally came up with several of its fronts entering in action with no surprise
the defending champions winning their home opener against Derry City.
Other revelations came from Finn Harps winning their opening match at Ballybofey against a renewed Sligo Rovers, very well in
Inchicore the local Pats were no match for the Blues, with the Leesiders succumbed
to recently promoted Shelbourne.
For the only Saturday game scheduled with the Dublin
Derby headlining opening day was the Shamrock Rovers visiting their archrivals
at Phisborough at its colossus Dalymont Park, winning their first-round against
the local Bohs.
Going to Finn Park the local Harps got a valuable win
over a stunned Sligo Rovers looking at any cost to cruise to victory at the expense of Ollie Horgan and company with a second-half goal.
As Karl Sullivan score in the 57’ minute was enough for
the locals to lift to the win and start the season with the right foot in what
maybe be a promising campaign for the Ballybofey side.
Finn Harps 1-0 Sligo Rovers
Back in Inchicore colossus Richmond Park the visiting and
renewed Waterford Blues of Alan Reynolds delivered a valuable win on the road against
Stephen O’ Donnell’s side promise of a stellar season.
With a lone goal early in the first minutes of the second
half the visiting Blues via Kevin o’ Connor scoring the game-winner and defensively
the Blues maintained the clean sheet for the win.
Saint Patrick’s Athletic 0-1 Waterford
In Oriel Park Vinnie Perth Dundalk started with the right formula the defense of its title with a win over visiting Derry City in what seems
dot be a low scoring start of the season for several sides.
With a defensive match throughout the whole match and
between the visiting Candystripes and Lilywhites, on the 79’ minute its when
Dane Massey scored the only goal of the game for the locals.
Dundalk 1-0 Derry City
In Turner’s Cross for Neale Fenn and his Rebel Army, it was
showtime and welcoming the Shelbourne Reds in town after these recently earning
their promotion from First vision were to make their long-awaited debut in the
top circuit.
However, it was for the Shels Ciaran Kilduff to score the game-winner in the 86’ and lift the Reds to an opening day win as well valuable
on the road for this recently promoted side.
Cork City 0-1 Shelbourne
In Dalymont Park bad weather didn’t stop the start of the
season with its only Saturday game in the always celebrated Dublin Derby
between the Bohemians and the visiting Shamrock Rovers.
With round one in the books and in favor of the Hoops,
these are considered as the league favorites to win this edition, the lone goal
came via Aaron Greene's score on injury time on the 93’ minute.
Bohemians 0-1 Shamrock Rovers
