Marc Dos Santos and the Vancouver Whitecaps directives
have been very busy in the preseason in building in what looks to be a possible
contender in this upcoming 2020 campaign.
With a not so positive finish in his first year at the
helm of the Vancouver Whitecaps, despite building it with several important players,
the Caps finished dead last in the Western Conference and 23rd
overall in the league standings.
The Caps finished in 2019 with a not so encouraging
record of 8 wins, 16 losses and 10 draws, for manager Dos Santos Major League
Soccer reality in its competition format got him a bit off guard and the team
not making it into the postseason for the second consecutive season.
Dos Santos and the club directives, went hard at work
in the preseason assembling a contender and bringing players to build the
contender and looking to become the second Canadian team to advance to the League finals.
So far, these club directives have been busy at work in
getting the ideal players and even looking in getting top-class players from
European leagues to reinforce the Gastown side, still, the club has brought a
number of important players to front another contested 2020 campaign.
As the first order of business, the Caps brought a player
from Liga MX side Puebla in marquee striker Lucas Cavallini becoming the first
transfer for the Gastown side on December 16, 2019, and the man with impressive
stats.
Besides el Tanque or tank as this player is known as the
Vancouver side in the past SuperDraft selected Syracuse midfielder Ryan Raposo
a native Canadian in the fourth round and goalkeeper Daniel Gagliardi in the 32
rounds from Florida International University.
As this club is building up with a number of players in a huge majority from Canada, they have brought the following players to come and impact
with their game in BC Place as well this team to make a turnaround as
envisioned by this side directives.
For the team to build up from players all the way to directives
in new Sporting Director Axel Schuster and CEO in Mark Pannes in an effort for these club owners in getting people to do the job right.
The arrival of Chilean defender Cristian Gutierrez, Colombian
winger Cristian Dajome, Ghana midfielder Leonard Owusu, Argentinian defender
Erik Godoy, Home Grown midfielders Patrick Metcalfe, Damiano Pecile and defender
Gianfranco Facchineri.
Other impact players are French midfielder winger David
Milinkovic on loan from Hull City, promise goalkeeper Brian Meredith, and Serbian
center back Ranko Veselinovic from Vojvodina from Serbia’s SuperLiga.
My conclusion in this season will be filled with several
challenges for manager Marc Dos Santos and his Whitecaps, looking for a
prolific season and this time not only making it to the promised land of the
postseason.
As this club is looking ahead of becoming the second Canadian
club to reach the league finals, in the end, of these club newest acquisitions work
out, something that draws my attention is the number of defensive players to
reinforce this area.
In the end, as mentioned if this club makes out an impact
and sees a revival a finish in seventh place will be the best finish but I foresee
a ninth-place overall finish in the Western Conference.
