Goal routs headline a contested recap in the NIFL on Boxing Day


The Showgrounds had a goal fest when the Sky Blues and Bannsiders displayed their best games; the Crues displayed a grand match as well seeing the Stute Boys suddenly in a positive streak.

On other fronts the Blues delivered a rout as well Glens, Swifts, Point and City in their matches ending in a stalemate, however these squads showed off their best on Boxing Day.

 In the Showgrounds and still league leaders, the Sky Blues of Ballymena United showed off a grand match against the sudden revived Coleraine Bannsiders and delighting the attendees with a goal fest. 

For the visiting Coleraine side these came ready to deliver an upset with goals from Stephen Lowry 11’, James McLaughlin 28’ and Ian Parkhill 66’, for the Sky Blues scoring Cathair Freil 14’ P, Andrew Burns 67’ and Jonathan McMurray 90’.

In Solitude, the local Reds had their positive streak halted by a determined Cures side that is looking at any cost to recover some ground lost and try its best to gain the league top and with a goal rout. 

With a win over their cross-town neighbors, the Crues won in style this edition of the North Belfast Derby with a double from David Cushley 3’ and 50’ followed by a treble from Paul Heatley 13’, 72’ and 86’ for the locals Rory Donelly scored in the 88’ minute. 

Cliftonville 1, Crusaders 5 

In Stangmore Park the local Swifts were in part upset by a late goal from Stephen Donelly 93+3 while the local Swifts scored Paul McElroy 70’ for the stalemate and share of points with Glenavon.

Dungannon 1, Glenavon 1

In Brandywell the local Stute side suddenly is showing a positive streak with another win over relegation destined Ards, with a lone goal from their skipper Michael McCrudden in the 33’ via a penal.

In Windsor Park, the local Linfield Boys delivered a goal fest against the Glens of Glentoran in what the locals showed off their might and keeping a close chase on league leaders Ballymena United. 

With scores from Jimmy Callacher 16’, Jordan Stewart 65’, Joel Cooper 68’ and Andrew Waterworth 76’ to net another notable win. 

Linfield 4, Glentoran 0

In Q Radio Arena, the local Point and the siting City lads shared the points in a stalemate with Warrenpoint Town scoring Danny Wallace 43’ and Dean Walters 90+3 and for Newry City Mark McCabe 40’ and Dale Montgomery 53’ P.
