The oddities of a
rare English Premier League New Year’s schedule, is leaving several squads to
have just a few days rest and to prepare themselves into their next matches, as
the race to the top intensifies.
With the London Derby
to play in this edition between the Chelsea Blues and the Tottenham Hotspurs,
we had a contest between two squads playing a one of a kind and spectacular
football.
The Spurs had an
excellent presentation on the first of this month with a rout over a plain
Watford Hornets at Vicarage Road.
On the other side of
the coin we had a hot streaking Chelsea Blues looking forward to net their fourteenth
win in a row and continue their mastery over their Premiership foes as well
increase their lead at the top of the overall table.
Coming to this match
the Blues of Antonio Conte, after playing their last match in New Year’s Eve
and winning notably over a a discreet Stoke City with a landslide of a win.
Being in the
background the colossus of White Hart Lane, Mauricio Pochettino and his bunch despite
coming from a win, he knew of the challenge
ahead and the package he had ahead with a squad that at times looked invincible.
Still for Poche and
his group, it was business as usual and putting in play a 3-4-2-1 with a lone
Harry Kane in the front but accompanied in his sides by Dele Alli and Christian
Eriksen looking forward to penetrate a tough line in David Luiz and Gary
Cahill.
In the case of the
Italian still utilizing his winning 3-4-3 formula with a 3-4-3 combination with
a brick wall in his backfield with Luiz, Cahill and Azpilicueta, these three
amigos can be lethal to any opposing squad sticker that so far has given a plus
to its Boss.
However, the way
matches are won are with pure strategy and intelligently planning these and worth
lots of courage and giving all your best, something the local Spurs took in their
advantage and with the support of their fan base, voila, the feat was consumed.
Despite the tale of the
tape shows off a one sided dominance in the overall stats by the visiting Blues,
this was to be the Lilywhites afternoon of excellent and one of a kind football
that at the end made this squad persevere for the win.
This match was to take
an interesting twist and seeing how a Dele Alli currently putting the ball
behind any of the Spurs foes goal nets and something in common with Conte Blues
is his nonstop scoring.
In the case of the Spur
rookie sensation is that he put a hell of a show and put once again a double
into his personal account elevating his personal count of ten goals in the campaign
and possibly more to come.
After this win, this squad
is for real as last campaign finishing behind Arsenal in third and once being a
shadow of its champion Leicester City, if things continue going in the positive
for the Lilywhites we may see them contending for the league title.
It has been awhile
for this squad to win the big one and for Mauricio Pochettino squad since the
arrival of the Andean to this parts of North London, a return to his old lost
glories and became once again the giant it was.
So far, in the campaign
the Spurs netted several important wins and now they must continue displaying a
more serious and ambitious game to move up into the league top and this squad
has all the necessary elements to proclaim itself champion.
At the end, this was
a great win for the Spurs, as this squad has shown in its eleven a more serious
and complete lineup from its frontal attack to tis defending backfield steeping
up when the going gets tough.
Despite Chelsea being
the overall favorite the last laugh and upset, for the Spurs in this edition of
the London Derby!
