It has been quite a
while for the folks back at Bridgeview, Illinois, to enjoy the thrills of the postseason
and to get a decent campaign from the Boys of their Chicago Fire.
A squad considered
once as spectacular, after its inception into Major League Soccer in its first
ever expansion and on top of that winning the only title in their story after its
debut, it was something considered like a grand feat.
Still for third year
man in the Windy City squad, Vejko Paunovic, the aims for the man from the Balkans
is to make this campaign a one of a kind for his Fire and return them to the
spotlight once enjoyed.
The only problem is
that he will have to turn things around in Toyota Stadium, after his squad once
again occupied the not so noted cellar, despite this club front office people
making all sorts of moves around august time.
No solution was in
sight and the end of 2016, this club had a modest record of seven wins, ten
draws and seventeen losses to add to worse.
With rumors lately
that the Fire are on the lookout for a super Designated Player to reinforce its
ranks, the name of Bastian Schweinsteiger is becoming nonstop in the Fire
directives as well the intentions of the German to join an MLS entity.
So far, the wheeling and
dealing are constant in Toyota Stadium, with several new faces to reinforce its
ranks, after all this 2017 was a year of seeing two new expansion squads to
make its debut and Manager Paunovic already has his ideal nine aside.
Very by resigning
Luis Solignanc who came in a trade in an august deal from the Colorado Rapids,
the Fire see the potential this chap can deliver to this squad, something that its
Boss has deposited all of his trust.
The arrival of
Juninho from Liga MX Xolos of Tijuana to reinforce the midfield, Legia Warsaw Hungarian
striker Nemanja Mikolic and Uruguayan sensation to provide a security in the
Fire posts in Jorge Bava.
If the deal for the
soon to be former Manu and Germany National squad midfielder becomes a reality,
the Fire can start towards a stellar campaign and imminent return to the league
postseason and contend once again for the title.
Alongside of the return of David Accam, Arturo
Alvarez, Jonathan Campbell, Michal De Leeuw, John Goossens, Johan Kappelhof,
Matt Lampson, Joao Mieira, Matt Polster and Brandon Vincent, considered to return
in 2017.
All of these players
were the ones selected by the Fire Boss to return and protected them from the
draft that took place to reinforce the likes of newcomers Atlanta United and Minnesota
United.
Still the expectations
for this club to fly high in this upcoming 2017 considered high and with plenty
of relevant after this squad is reinforcing every spot possible in order to
contend for this campaign and display a one of a kind football all campaign
long.
As Mikolic brings a
new energy and dynamism in the new Chicago Fire, the Hungarian can be capable
of competing with the likes of Piatti, Giovinco, Villa, Wright Phillips and
others in league play as well give a new depth to this squad game.
The arrival of keeper
Jorge Bava, will add a new dimension to this squad defensive backfield and with
three of its main starters returning, this part of the Fire initial eleven will
see a lot of improvement as well seeing a new leader in the Andean.
Another area to see
of the Chicago squad will be its frontal attack with Luis Solignac returning to
the Windy City and Nemaja Mikolic, maybe Vejko Paunovic, will switch from his traditional
4-2-3-1 formation to a more attacking one with these two.
In this squad
midfield, the return of Matt Polster, David Accam, Arturo Alvarez and Micheal
De Leeuw and the addition of an experienced Juninho, the outlook of the Windy
City squad having a stellar campaign will be enormous.
Much ado if Bastian Schweinsteiger
makes up his mind for this squad to reinforce it, we may have an amazing and
all around exciting campaign in Toyota Park, if the German decides the
contrary, it will not be the end of the world for the Fire.
At the end, the Windy
City squad has all the elements of staging a comeback into the top spots in the
Eastern Conference as well make a trip to the league postseason, considered one
of the utmost priorities of its man at the helm.
