Coming to this match-
considered vital and important for the Candystripes in their quest of netting
the last European spot in play for Europe and with a match played at always-difficult
Tallaght and its Shamrock Rovers.
The reality for Derry’s
Boss Kenny Shiels was going to be a bit of an uphill battle, especially with a squad
with several of its key players being in the disabled list.
Today’s match considered
a Derby between these two squads, after these being in a close race for the third
spot and being within striking distance and with just a few points lead from the
local Hoops.
Suddenly the tables turned
in favor of the visitors, putting a class act performance with a defensive backfield
that always kept its ground and never surrendered to the pressures of the Rovers
counterattacks being constant.
The tactical formation
sent by the Candystripes Boss in a 4-4-2 became lethal for the local Hoops
strikers to convert, despite the multiple opportunities they encountered all
evening long.
As Gerard Doherty saw
a series of dangers and constantly stopping one after the other, alongside a vicious
and stingy playing defensive backfield and its one of a kind performance, was
enough to seal the deal.
Before the interval, Derry
City went up the scoreboard with a lone goal by Rory Patterson in the opportune
play when this chap did the honors and netted his 12th goal of the campaign
with just 36 minutes of the first half.
As the opportunities when
arise were taken advantage by the visitors in the 87th by pure luck
and opportune intervention by the Hoops keeper Craig Hyland stop in what many
thought it could been the go ahead goal by Ronan Curtis.
With eight games left
in this campaign of the League of Ireland and a five point’s lead over the
Shamrock Boys, the Northern Boys will have once again the opportunity and
advantage of playing the Dublin Boys at home.
Alongside of coping
with their FAI Cup compromises in their next match against Wexford Youths
playing at Ferycarrig Park in their quarterfinals round and then continue with their
league compromises.
At the end, one close
race between the Boys from both Derry City FC and Shamrock Rovers seen in the
upcoming months of September and October when the league ends and we will see
the outcome between these two squads.
Will the Candystripes
take on the pressure so far they have been under and admirably they have prevailed
with half of their squad in the disabled list and will the Rovers will make a run,
outfox their rivals, and net the European spot.
Nothing written but in
the case of the Cumann Peile Chathair Dhoire their perseverance will be their best ally as in today’s
match with their awesome football defensive and spectacular at the end this squad
persevered for a valuable win.
