Considered as an
original or pioneer in the ranks of Major League Soccer, since its inception, a
squad that has won it all and considered one of the most hardened and competitive
in league play.
With four league Cups,
4 Supporter Shields, 3 Lamar Hunt- US Open Cup, five Eastern Conference, one
CONCACAF Champions League and 1 Interamericana Cups, to name a few.
These achievements
speak for this club with a long history and always being present in the postseason
lately and with no luck to advance into the league finals and this is something
the DCU is looking forward.
For Manager Ben Olson,
this 2017 is one campaign filled with many challenges in what many have dubbed
it as one of the most contested.
Still the outlook of
this squad seen as promising, despite seeing several players leave DC, the
arrival of new faces at RFK gives this squad renewed hopes of a stellar and spectacular
campaign in what seems their last matches at this colossus.
One campaign considered
a major one, as on February 27 the DCU will break ground of Audi Field the DCU new
stadium, which will seat 20,000 fans.
This is considered a historical
day for the Black and Red.
As the DCU despite
how busy they have been, their Front office still managed to make a few moves
in the postseason and bring new prospects to reinforce the ranks of this unique
and most decorated squads in MLS.
Very well, assure of
some of its veterans to wrap this club busy agenda of making an all-around
contender to try in this campaign to win the league shield as well add more
trophies in its halls at their new home in Audi Field.
The arrival of
forward Jose Guillermo Ortiz on loan from Costa Rica Herediano, in the Super-
Draft the Black and Red got lucky with defender Chris Odoi- Atsem and keeper Erik
Klenofsky and getting a deal in free agents forward Sebastien Le Toux and defender Maxime Tissot.
Also the addition to
their roster, the upcoming young talent and considered as their homegrown players
and future prospects in midfielders Ian Harkes and Chris Durkin.
Many see the DCU
using a 4-1-4-1 formation with another homegrown player defending the posts of
DCU in Bill Hamid, with his backfield in Nick De Leon and Taylor Kemp in the
wings and playing in the center Steve Birnbaum and Sean Franklin.
As the midfield defensively
will be a lone Marcelo Sarvas and his frontal attack in the mighty midfield foursome
in Patrick Nyarko, Ian Harkes, Lloyd Sam and Luciano Acosta.
One thing for sure we
will have in Patrick Mullins as the lone striker who for sure will be one of
the utmost scorers for the Black and Red in this campaign and maybe becoming
the league’s top scorer.
At the end the DCU is
always been a contender and despite not being in the semifinals of the Eastern Conference
in the grand fete of the postseason, the heat is on for them in this campaign
and Manager Ben Olsen.
That will lead his
squad into the league postseason and seeing multiple possibilities of advancing
not into the East semifinals but represent it in the league finals.
To conclude the DCU
will assure itself a fourth spot in the end.
