As always, those hardened
Boys from the Midwest are back and ready to rock the foundations of Major
League Soccer in this 2017 campaign, ask that to hardened and ambitious Manager
Peter Vermes.
This chap has made a
one tough squad in the SKC and to play against them is like playing the Gods of
Football, after this squad is one tough client to beat.
In addition, I am not
exaggerating my friends!
I still remember that
playoff match against the Portland Timbers back in Providence Park back in Rose
City, when the SKC and locals went to the infamous penalty kicks and after the
SKC succumbed to their hosts.
The momentum grabbed
by the Portland Boys after the feat over the Wizards that these went to twin
the league in 2015, after these believe in themselves in beating one of the
toughest squad to defeat in MLS.
Still with some
players leaving Children’s Mercy Park, for Manager Vermes seeing the return of
many of his eleven, but the SKC front office managed to ink and lured new faces
to Kansas City to reinforce its ranks.
With Nagamura
retiring, Lawrence Olum and Chance Myers going to Portland and others out of
contract, the base for Vermes 11 is still here and staying put Kansas after the
majority of them signing extensions in their contracts.
No loss there with
some players leaving as SKC welcomes new blood to Mercy Park, that will
continue this club winning legacy for many campaigns to come as well looking
for that elusive Shield that has been a bit absent.
As this campaign, Sporting
will be betting in youth as many squads in MLS have been doing it in the
preseason with two promising lads from the USL and getting the call to the big
leagues in midfielder Tyler Pasher and Keeper Adrian Zendejas.
In addition, the Wizards
have brought defender Igor Juliao from Fluminense and forward/ midfielder Gerso
Fernandez from Belenenses from the Brazilian league, midfielder Ilie Sanchez, keeper
Andrew Dykdtra and defender Colton Storm from the Re- entry and Super drafts.
By the looks and
request of Manager Peter Vermes of testing the waters and looking for a new
striker to lead his attack, the SKC got four forward in Latif Blessing from
Liberty Professionals FC, first draft
pick Christian Volesky via trade with Portland, Cameron Iwasa and Soony Saad.
As youth reigned in
the preseason for the Kansas squad, as these new additions to their roster will
promote a sort of competition with the veterans and the newcomers to see who will
be in Peter Vermes initial eleven all campaign long.
So far by many
experts predictions of SKC lineup for opening day will be a high pressing 4-3-3
formation, the way many see the starting lineup will be in Tim Melia as keeper
as his backfield with Abdul Salaam and Medrano on the outside and Besler and
Opara in the center.
Leading the attack in
the middle will be Espinosa, Feilhaber and Mustivar and the frontal attack of Graham
Zusi, Gerso Fernandes and in the lone front Dom Dwyer.
The way this lineup
is no different to others in campaigns past despite new faces in it, still the
same Vermes tough and one of a kind football will be displayed all campaign
long and make this squad always be among the top.
Sporting Kansas City known
to be a difficult and resilient squad to play against and despite their early exit
in the postseason in the Western Conference and the levels of competition in this
campaign.
This squad will return
to the postseason and be among the top three squads of their conference and
for their Manager the chances of going to the league finals will be one of his
ultimate feats.
