When Peter Vermes and
his SKC Boys come to Providence Park, we are ready to see these two squads show
off a very passionate and disputed rivalry, which you are to expect many
fireworks whenever these two play.

This is something put
in evidence by a bold, intelligent and sneaky Sporting Kansas City squad-that
used all of its resources to deliver a blow to the Rose City squad at home, by putting
all of their efforts to work.
Among one of them
shutting down a prolific PTFC offensive that at the end not even Diego Valeri, Sebastian
Blanco, David Guzman, Diego Chara, Darlington Nagbe or Faneando Adi could decipher- as the visitors exercise a full defensive press all night long.

Bold is the way to
describe a squad that did not care of their rival they had in front and with mastery
in the midfield and whenever anytime the Timbers top play-makers took the ball-
these were like vultures over their prey.
By denying the
Timbers players of getting comfortable in their game and doing they do best.
Intelligent is the appropriate
word to describe the game scheme plan by Manager Vermes to stop the high-flying Portland
squad in its tracks and making these commit 22 fouls to just 12 of them.
Sneaky the way Vermes
and his initial eleven played all evening long- luring the Portland squad to be
under the watchful eye of the game referee that became a prey to the tricks
played by several of the SKC players.
That became at the
end, their success alongside a tight defensive press on the Timbers offensive
game, to shut them down as well protecting their goalie Tim Melia to surrender
to the locals few plays to goal and scoring a clean sheet.
Despite the loss, the
Portland defensive game showed off their resolve to keep the attacks away from the
posts of Jake Gleason away, until that surprise play that caught everyone off
guard in the Timbers backfield.
For SKC striker Dom
Dwyer beating his mark, for the only score in the match.

This just ended up as
a simple effort from the locals, trying to put the score even.
Despite the loss
being the second in the campaign for the PTFC, for the Timbers Boss Caleb
Porter, for sure he will get back to the drawing board, as this match for sure
though him a very valuable lesson.
As for the players
these will be an experience they will never forget and prepare themselves of
what is coming to them in the remainder matches of this campaign and how to
deal with stingy defenses.
