Sad, but this time is
true, the airs of relegation are coming to this parts of Tyne- Wear and its
Sunderland bunch going down this time without any means of salvation.
After a series of mediocre
campaigns in the Stadium of Light, this time- no such thing called luck will
save this squad from the abyss already sentenced since the start of this
campaign.
In this instances whom
to blame, as this club saw a parade of managers from Paolo Cannio and later substituted
by caretaker Kevin Ball and by player turned manager Gus Poyet who lasted two years
at the helm of this club.
Among his notable
work after defeating Manu in the Capitol One Cup semifinals in penalty kicks to
reach the final and losing to Manchester City to a 3-1 score.
Year later Poyet barely
survived with the Rokerites and finishing 17 the top of this club decided to substitute
him with a broad experience and heavyweight Boss in Dutch Dick Advocaat saving the
club from relegation again and finishing in 16th place.
After Advocaat brief
stint in October 2015, came Big Sam Allardyce to the rescue and having setbacks with the squad
all campaign long at the end the man deliver the Lads from salvation and finish
in seventeen place seeing their Tyne- Wear foes the Magpies going down.
The departure of
Allardyce to take over the reins of the English National Squad brought the
likes of David Moyes to see if he can turn things around and elevate the squad
to more levels that are competitive.
Opportunity knocked
for the trouble Scotsman after seeing his failure sin Manu and later in Spanish
side Real Sociedad, one more time he saw the moment as opportune to salvage his
already tarnished image by putting on a campaign with the Rokerites.
The Scotland native
once again witness another fracas in his career as a manager and this time the
Lads are going down to the ranks of the Championship league in relegation with
no salvation possible.
With a midweek match
scheduled in Riverside Stadium in Middlesbrough, the local Boro Boys after
their first year in Premiership after their promotion from Championship, after
December this trouble squad is battling to the demons of relegation.
Their home field
advantage and support elevated them to a 1-0 win over a hapless and sad
Sunderland squad that since this campaign start has been lacking an identity in
its overall structure.
This wins gives the
Smoggies a certain air of hope leaving the Black Cats to regroup in the next
campaign in the Championship league and start all over again, but how will this
squad be armed an built to become a contender as their cross town foes the
Geordies brief stint.
The question arises
if Sunderland will play just for a year in this league, depending on the front
office planning and its ambitions to keep some of its valuable players if these
will agree to play in this level.
Five managers have
paraded at the Stadium of Light and none of them failed to deliver a decent and
competitive campaign in these parts of Tyne Wear as the results speak for themselves.
What is next for the
Black Cats, it will be up to its top brass of what to do in the next campaign
to see a rapid return to the ranks of Premiership, very well leave the apathy
and indifference to reinforce this squad and make it a contender.
Sad to see a fighter
go after in some matches in the campaign showed at times a glimpse of life and
putting a fight but with no consistency at all, hope to see this squad soon and
its once proud followers stop their bickering and embarrassment in social media.
At the end, will this
club in Championship see a turnaround or a revival, as well taking advantage of
its academy known to have a few prospects that are in need of trust and
opportunity to show off their potential?
The need for an identity,
courage and most of all passion will be essential elements for this club in
need and that lost unfortunately many campaigns
past, to conclude hope for a prompt return Sunderland.
