Tell that to a Super
Blues one of a kind game displayed this evening at Richmond Park in Inchicore,
Dublin- were they put a stop to their hosts sudden revival and momentum,
silencing a whole venue.
After a sudden
revival from the local Pats, these were looking forward to another win that
could lift their spirits as well make a move in the overall table.
Not today, as Liam
Buckley St Pats were silence and totally stumped by a transformed Limerick FC squad
that all of a sudden, these are playing a one kind of football.
Coincidence or just
we are to see a revival from the Boys from Markets Field.
Still we are to see
how will the Super Blues under interim Manager Willie Boland will react and maintain
a pace that can keep this squad well founded in the ranks of Airtricity.
With all-around
heroics performed by the Super Blues, initial eleven in the field and
dominating throughout the majority of the match, very well keeping the Saints
goalie busy during the whole ninety minutes of the match.
Something to praise
the likes of Connor O’ Malley who prevented his goal posts to fall under the contest
pressure of Limericks strikes from Rodrigo Tosi, Shane Duggan and Chiedozie
Ogbene who made this man earn his pay after his multiple heroics.
Unfortunately, his
skills were no match and not able to prevent a play that turned out to be the
opener of the match with a well-manufactured play after Limerick Captain Shane Duggan taking a free kick.
Defender Tony
Whitehead was in the right place and in an opportune moment, he just took
advantage of that deflection to push the ball.
That opens the score
for the visitors and taking the lead in the 26 minute, very well seeing in the
sidelines a very frustrated Saints Boss Liam Buckley, who in disbelief saw a defensive
lapse of his backfield.
Very well seeing how
the visitors were a domain force in the field in the first half and seeing how
one of his players Ian Bermingham got a yellow card and not seeing a more
organized game scheme from his squad not showing any inconveniences to Limerick
keeper Brendan Clarke.
Coming from a loss against
league leaders Cork City, the Super Blues welcomed today’s result as a way to
start their revival and looking forward not only for permanency but to start a
run towards the top three spots and earn a European position.
As the start of the
second half, the Saints started pressing the visitor’s backfield and its keeper
with free kicks and corners, the Blues coming off successfully from these pressures;
it’s when the 64th minute a break came for the Super Pats.
When Limerick Shaun
Kelly got a yellow card for handling the PATS Kurtis Byrnes shoot and provoking
a penal in favor of the local Pats, Conan Byrnes shoot suddenly crashes in the post
and the visitor’s by sheer miracle survived the scare.
After the play, Limerick
started to push towards the Saints backfield and pressuring to try to get the go-ahead
score and seal the win, with back-to-back shoots from Shane Duggan and John O’
Flynn.
Still the fortunes
were on the visitor’s side and in the 83 minute it is when John O’ Flynn put
the winning and cushion goal in the board that gave his squad the win and in
the 94 minute he took another shoot at O’ Malley posts.
The win keeps Limerick
FC solidly in fifth place with 10 points and moving up on the overall table
with a match at home next Saturday at Markets Field against a streaking Drogheda
United.
