Giovanni Savarese serious about winning the USOC

That is the aim for the first year manager, after the Portland Timbers win by a goal over Los Angeles Galaxy and advancing to quarterfinals for the first time since 2014.

The men is bold in his blueprint scheme to make of the Portland squad an all-around winner and so far in the USOC he has aligned players from the big squad and T2, having three from the USL side  placed in the eighteen against SKC.

This is a new era and for Gio netting a trophy of the likes of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup will be consider an initial feat in his project envisioned for the Rose City squad along if he and can deliver the Cascadia trophy.

I do recall how in his first press conference asked in Spanish by Univision reporter of how many trophies will he deliver he simply stated that he was not promising any but hard work and so far, the man project is showing up positive signs.

Still with a continuance of his work ahead in juggling Cup and league play, with the league return to action on June 24 with two back to back compromises on the road against Atlanta United and retuning to part II of the Cascadia Derby at Century Link Stadium against Seattle.

Putting the Portland momentum of ten games without knowing the meaning of defeat and facing one of the hottest clubs in MLS, the newcomers Atlanta United AKA the American Albiceleste for its number of Argentinians in its roster.

Other if Portland continues to thrive in its rivalry against the Sounders at Emerald City seizing an important victory that will pace them as front-runners in the Cascadia Cup standings.

Anyway, the new game and attitude as well levels of confidence shown by the new Portland Timbers and new philosophy of the game giving a revival in the careers of Cristhian Paredes, Andy Polo and now Samuel Armenteros.

Shows off the new winning approach Giovanni Savarese is putting in any competition, his Timbers are putting in every performance and with new challenges and goals set by him.

So far, waiting for a rival to come from the LAFC- Sacramento Republic match, Portland is bracing for another challenge and as Gio states simply by putting one game at a time.

Especially the way the PTFC has delivered notable wins over tough foes in San Jose and the LA Galaxy, the road to the Lamar Hunt Cup finals can within reach for the Rose City Boys.

Overall, I would not be surprise in how the Portland Timbers can be disputing in the finals of this competition and maybe winning a trophy or two in this campaign without mentioning a trip to the league finals.

If you state about Giovanni Savarese quest to making a run in the USOC, you are right after his years in the NASL with the NY Cosmos were he defeated both New York Red Bulls and NYCFC. Later in this tournament, the Philadelphia Union and another edition eliminated his squad by the New England Revolution, leaving a certain itch to win this cup.

Now with the Portland Timbers, opportunity knocks and the chance of maybe delivering another important trophy to the halls of Providence Park, the man is serious and ambitious are the ideal words for his aims.
