Watford, Derry and Hoops back in the plus in a recap of the league of Ireland


Another contested week in the SSE League of Ireland with several squads in the negative, returning to the winning column after netting important wins over the weekend.  For Watford, Derry City and the Shamrock Rovers returning to the plus side, shows off how the league will take a competed twist.

As the race to the top four spots intensifies for several squads, for newcomers Waterford currently seeded in third place and with Derry City and the Shamrock Rovers win, the race for third is taking a new dimension. 

The recently promoted Blues are currently in command of their position with six points over the Candystripes, nine over the Hoops, the heat is on, and their manager Alan Reynolds is aware of stepping up his side game for the better.

At the RSC the local Waterford Boys delivered a valuable win over the visiting Dubliners Saint Patrick’s Athletic in what turned to be a rough and physical game with yellow cards a plenty and a red card too. 

After an early exit by Saints Kevin Toner, the visitors left with ten players in the pitch and for Alan Reynolds and company taking advantage with goals from Courtney Duffus 55’ and Ismahil Akinade 76’ to seal the deal. 

Waterford 2, Saint Patrick’s Athletic 0

In Oriel Park, the local De Town boys deliver mayhem to the visiting and trouble Limerick Boys to a goal fest were the likes of their striker Patrick Hoban delivered with a treble accompanied by Krisztian Adorjan. 

For Hoban scoring in the 41’, 66’, 84’, and one goal scored via penal accompanied by Hungarian newcomer Adorjan in the 69’ were enough to catapult the Lilywhites to first place temporarily. 

 Dundalk 4, Limerick 0

In Dalymont at Phibsborough the locals Bohemians were looking forward to a much-needed win but instead saw the momentum and fight of the visiting Derry City Boys coming too in need of a positive result.

The CandyStripes with scores from Rory Hale 22’ and Rory Patterson 25’ to seal the win after the local Gypsies intents of a late rally in the 86’ with Jonathan Lunney score but this came a little too late.

Bohemians 1, Derry City 2

In Dublin majestic colossus Tallaght Stadium the return of their international striker making headlines with his start witht eh green Army and scoring his first international goal. the Hoops were to face off at home  a troubled Bray Wanderers squad.

With a goal rout by the locals after Graham Burke scoring a double in 4’ and 75’ minute one via a penal, he was followed by Samuel Bone 53’, Daniel Carr 83’ and David McAllister 86 to delvier a coveted win and stay in the race for the top three.

Shamrock Rovers 5, Bray Wanderers 0

In the Showground’s the local Sligo Rovers looking forward to deliver an upset over the league leaders and defending champions Cork City, they saw their luck turn for the worst with a loss and a clean sheet.

With the Rebel Army pushing hard to maintain their perfect run, their goals came via Kieran Sadlier 1’ minute, and Graham Cummins 79’ to stay a the top of the SSE by just a lone point advantage.
