After the draw in
UEFA’S headquarters in Nice, France, the Rebel Army is brace to an all-around
challenge against Poland’s top rated Legia Warsaw in the first round of the
qualifiers to net a spot into the stage group.
With probable dates
for both matches to play in July at Turners Cross in Cork City between the 10
or 11 and a return to 17/18 to Warsaw Polish Army Stadium, were the so-called
military legionaries are one tough foe to beat at home.
If you recall the
Polish Legionaries had a rub in against Dundalk FC back in 2016 were they beat
them in the final qualifying round that decides who seizes the last spot to
Champions League stage group.
Now the stage is set
for the Leesiders to make history once again for the SSE in the international
stages and see a continuance of its football league as well how Irish football
is for real.
So far, in the
domestic league, the City squad is in a struggle between them and Dundalk FC to
see who will finish in the top of the Airtricity with just a lone point but in
the eyes of many in the League of Ireland is one serious foe to defeat.
For John Caulfield
this time is serious business and not playing in the UEFA Europa League
qualifiers, but among the elite of world football, with wins and a little luck
maybe the Leesiders can make it into the coveted stage groups.
As manager Caulfield
aware of the potential and current squad, he has and the role this can play in
these competitions as they are up and ready to deliver and show off thay they
are for real not only in their domestic league but in the international stages
too!
Still with a month
away, the Leesiders are ready for anything, despite the contested competition
these have at home against a determined Lilywhite squad, but seeing in the plus
side the pressure will be beneficial for the City bunch.
Having a rival in
place, Cork City options are the following with a loss against Legia Warzaw
these have the option for a third round bye in the Europa League as the UEFA
governors decided this.
The other is a win in
the first round these have to wait for a foe in the second round against FC
Spartak Trnava (Slovakia) or HSK Zrinjski (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
Until ticket sales
and a confirmation of playing dates, the FAI suggested too many traveling fans
to hold their plans until both club in their social media or internet pages
makes the official announcements.
Still all eyes and hopes
deposited in this hardened and hard fighting Rebel Army ready to deliver many
notable glories to the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland, good luck City.
