Reality hits the Portland Timbers and stop of their perfect run at home

Portland Timbers 1, LA Galaxy 1
Providence Park, Portland, Oregon

Despite their loss at home in midweek, the LA Galaxy (5, 7, 2, 17 points) put on the brakes on the Portland Timbers ( 6, 3, 3, 21 points) offensive and winning momentum at home with a simple draw. With a few days, rest the Boys from Tinsel Town came decided to halt the Timbers perfect run at home, with a defensive gem.

For the Giovanni Savarese seeing his squad multiple intents of opening the score with several failed tries that many of the Timbers followers in a completely sold out Providence Park seeing in disbelief how their Boys miss one opportunity after another.

At the end, the Portland squad had to settle for a tie after a play in the second half conceived by a counter move by Andres Flores tripped inside the area for the game official to award the locals a hard fought penalty.

For the visiting side manager Sigi Schmidt putting in display a 4-2-3-1 formation and with seemd for the local’s strikers in Samuel Armenteros enjoying a scoring frenzy in back to back matches, simply held by the Angelinos defensive game.

Also with the Rose City, playmakers in Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri held at bay and despite the Portland Talisman showing some narrow escapes in the posts of David Bingham who overcome the locals push and survived until that foul inside his area.

In the other side of the field, the Portland defense doing his work and standing tall with the arrivals of Romain Alessandrini, Emmanuel Boateng and Sebastian Llegett, but in the 20 minute a combination of Boateng to Pontius became the revelation for the Timbers defense.

As the former DC United stellar, made one of his signature moves that the Timbers starter in defense Bill Tuiloma making a start for injured Alvas Powell, and him back from the DL, but Pontius skills were the difference maker to open the score in favor of the Angelinos.

As this match saw, the best of both squads really battling to dominate this match filled with a lot of physicality, but an all-around contest for the local Portland squad to start a rally that in its beginnings was stopped by the Galaxy eleven.

As this match between both squads totaling twenty fouls, but just two yellow cards one for each team, but in the case of the Portland Timbers midfield dynamo Diego Chara accumulating back to back yellows, for sure he will miss his next match.

The conclusion is that today’s result was not a loss but a share of spoils for these two squads as Sigi Schmidt and company are showing off a better display of their best game away and not at home, and for the Portland Timbers getting a taste of what has to come next Saturday against SKC.

For many in hand they got to see the Galaxy top man in Zlatan Ibrahimovic coming as a substitute in the 72nd minute for Emmanuel Boateng but held scoreless by Marcos Farfan, Julio Cascante and Zarek Valentin not allowing the Swede to get his best game.

The equalizer coming in the 57 via a penal converted by Diego Valeri, after Andres Flores fouled inside the area by Galaxy defender Jorgen Skjelvik, as this goal was the only offensive result the Portland could get.

Next week in midweek with a US Open Cup, match against San Jose and on Saturday at home against their toughest nemesis SKC that these really dominate the Portland offense and without Diego Chara on defense, this is a major test for Gio Savarese.
