Cork City looking forward to another shield of a campaign

John Caulfield was not kidding after winning the league shield and the FAI Cup that he was not going to rest until he rebuild his squad on the eve of another contested campaign in the SSE Airtricity League of Ireland.

With just over a month of wrapping up another edition of the SSE, the Leesiders are hard at work to build a contender not only in the Premier league but in the next edition of Champions League were they are to compete in the knockout rounds.

After not too successful stints in the previous Europa Leagues, the Rebel Army is hard at work to not just show off in Champions League but also try to make it into the coveted and difficult stage group for a squad of the likes of Cork City.

Making it to the big Mother of all tournaments top rounds and playing with Europa elite, will be another feat reached by manager Caulfield and company and write another amazing chapter in their history.

Despite last campaign seeing a successful undefeated run stopped by 21 games display of wondrous football and perfection, the decline shortly for the City squad came in August when the likes of their top scorer Sean Maguire and midfielder Kevin O’ Connor left.

As their adventure in the English Championship or first division with Preston North End became a highlight for these two and a step above their careers joining a squad that has all the elements of being a contender for promotion in this edition.

Very well seeing how Sean Maguire making his debut with the Republic of Ireland National squad and near top of England’s and the world best league English Premiership.

Tells you something of a perfection of a 2017 campaign the Leesiders had.

Still the departure of some players became a sort of problem for Caulfield as Maguire and O’ Connor were as well Greg Bolger returning to the Shamrock Rovers, City directives alongside the instructions and keen eye on talent in their manager.

Became a sort of busy bees looking forward to reinforce the ranks of this squad and with more to come, there is  no such thing than a break in the halls of Turners Cross Stadium as its top brass looking forward to rebuild a super squad for 2018.

So far, the Rebel Army has made Derry City their main shopping squad for its talent and by signing the likes of midfielder Barry McName and defender Aaron Barry, tells you of the desperation to reinforce this area considered their most vulnerable.

Also the arrivals of defenders Tobi Adebayo- Rowling from Sligo and Colm Horgan from Galway United along striker Josh Hanlon from Saint Patrick’s Athletic has made all sorts of headlines in league circles.

The resigning and commitments from top-notch defender Alan Bennett, Jimmy Keohane, Connor Mc Cormack, Gearoid Morrisey and Karl Shephard to return to City are assuring the champions another stellar campaign ahead.

Still this is not over for City as many other prospects in the league of Ireland are in the radar of the reigning champions and looking forward to a repeat of their hard fought titles and looking for more amazing performances in the domestic and international scene.

Look out league, as this Leesider squad is for real and looking for many glories and establish itself as a force not to be reckon with, so far manager Caulfield has keep on his promise of building this squad as a total contender!
