Old Trafford lived
once again the action and excitement of Premiership and its Red Devils displaying
a one of a kind match welcoming the return of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibramovic
back in the active roster.
With the Magpies of
Newcastle United coming to Manchester and renewing an old rivalry between these
two titans, the local Manu Boys did the ultimate feat in this game, by
performing all afternoon long in what seem to look like an easy affair.
Still in the early stages
of the match, Rafael Benitez and his Geordies were the ones opening the
scoreboard and exposing United’s frailties that at times show in its defensive
backfield.
However, the early
score done by the Toon when Andre Yedlin on the right hand beating United
defender Chris Smalling and a slip by Victor Lindelof inside the area were
enough opportunity for Dwight Gayle to send the ball to the post and ricochet towards
the net.
As a stunned David De
Gea only consolation was to see the ball go from one post to the other in a
pinball effect and see the first score from the visitors with the game time just
showing 14 minutes.
After the score the
Magpies strikers were keen at work looking forward for that eluive second goal
that would uplifted this squad confidence in the remainder of the match, as the
arrivals to De Gea posts was persistent after their first score.
For Jose Mourinho, it
was business as usual and his levels of confidence were in the positive, after
all by playing a conservative 4-2-3-1 with lone Romelu Lukaku in the front accompanied
by a dangerous trio in Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford.
As the lone two in
Paul Pogba returning to the initial lineup after sometime off and Nemanja Matic, the outcome for this
game had to be in the plus for the Portuguese and company aided by a sold out
Theater of Dreams.
The response from
United came after twenty minutes when Pogba presence in the midfield paid off
for Mou and his Boys when Anthony Martial put the ball behind the nets defended
by Robert Elliott who stopped the early arrivals from the locals.
With Manu first goal
with 37 minutes, the score tied at one goal each, as halftime almost arrives, as
another amazing combination of Ashley Young to Chris Smalling was enough to put
a dent in the momentum of Benitez and company in the 46 minute.
The second half was
no different like the first as the Geordies were not intimidated by playing as
a visitor and looking forward to an upset in the colossus of Trafford Street,
but the afternoon belonged to the locals push and determination.
As United started
taking over the match away from the Magpies, in the 54 United third goal came
from a rebound of a shoot done by Marcus Rashford to an opportune Paul Pogba
that just push the ball for the 3-1 score and locals dominance.
The best was yet to come,
Romelu Lukaku had to be present in the rout his squad was staging with a
wonderful goal that saw a fatigued and careless Newcastle defense give up the
fourth goal, and defining goal of the match for what became a spectacular win.
At the end, the return
of Paul Pogba into the starting lineup for Manchester United made a world of difference
in the strategies of Jose Mourinho and its game, as the win and revival staged
by them is the kind of game they are looking forward to compete.
In the clash of
United’s Manu won it with all around authority and class.
