Scandalous and
spectacular was today’s performance for the Southampton Saints at its coastal colossus
of Saint Mary’s showing off a total sold out and delivering a grand match for its
followers.
In addition, raising
more red flags and putting more in crisis the likes of the visiting Everton Toffees
and its interim manager David Unsworth, which the top brass back in Goodison Park
are to start looking for the ultimate of solutions, in the likes of a manager.
Very well enlarging their
list of potential candidates to five and with names of the likes of Big Sam
Allardyce, Sean Dyche, and Marco Silva and now the name of Diego Simeone
emerges as another top candidate that can turn things around for the School of
Science.
While the Toffees are
to decide their future, let us get back to the match that belonged in its
entirety to the local Saints, with its initial eleven finally playing a serious
game of football and showing an all-around hunger.
Especially since the
get go, as the squad of Mauricio Pellegrino emerged with the label of favorites
and took advantage of all the opportunities these came upon all afternoon by not
conceding any open spaces to the visitors.
Still the Saints did
managed to take care of all of its chances in the first half by opening the score
with a nice combination from a workaholic in Ryan Bertrand that despite not scoring
a single goal, but with his assistance in two plays that ended up as goals.
In the 18 minute of the
match, Bertrand set the play to Dusan Tadic for the 1-0 sending the whole of
Saint Mary’s attendance into frenzy after seeing their Boys unsurmountable
times trying to open up the score and two close plays, when finally the first goal
was score.
That early goal did not
hamper the Toffess into submission despite their five shoots to goal that one
of them made it across the defensive wall set by the Saints keeper Fraser
Forster all afternoon long, when Gylfi Sigurdsson finally scored his first goal
in the 45 minute.
As the match going into
halftime tied, for the visitors Manager David Unsworth , seeing a possibility
of reviving the possibilities of delivering a win that at the end could uplift
his squad spirits and confidence.
Unfortunately, that
did not happen and the visiting Blues seeing their luck dwindle in a matter of minutes
when their hosts suddenly turned the tables against them and with a dynamic
series of counterattacks, the Saints were in total control of the match.
In the 52 minute it’s
when Everton backfield will like to put it behind after seeing another team
display by the locals when Ryan Bertrand aperies on the scene and contributed
with an amazing assist to Charlie Austin and giving his squad the 2-1 lead.
With an inspired
Austin once again teamwork being involved with the author of the first goal assisting
his teammate six minutes later and Charlie with his second score in the 58 six minutes
later, Charlie Austin had a double and giving his squad a 3-1 advantage.
So far, in the match,
a nonexistent Everton being victimized by the dominance of the locals push and
top of the line game that at the end earned them in what seemed a very valuable
win and three points of gold.
James Ward- Prowse play and combination to an open
Stephen Davis who did not hesitated to send a
cannon of a shoot into the posts defended by not to successfully by
Jordan Pickford seeing once again his effort going futile and surrendering the
fourth and definitive goal.
A goal fest, indeed,
as the Saints marched with an all-around authority.
The win puts the
Saints in total command of tenth place with 16 points and a match next week
considered as one hefty challenge to tackle against Man City at Etihad an enterprise
not so easy to tackle for Pellegrino and company.
