The Portland Timbers tough task of finding the best suitor

An unsurmountable number of suitors appear in the lists of the Portland Timbers directives lead by Gavin Wilkinson to replace their one and only man that uplifted this squad into notoriety since taking over its helm.

Irreplaceable indeed as the charisma and amazing personality that Caleb Porter possessed as well the winning legacy left by him will be one tough task ahead for the man taking over the affairs in the direction of this amazing Rose City squad.

Considered as tops in the league by its style of play and it’s one of a kind followers lead by its amazing Timbers Army, what can a club ask for more with these combinations, still the need to find a leader considered the ideal one would be one laborious task ahead.

With a growing list of potential candidates that Major League Soccer information portal and Portland’s paramount soccer journalist in the Oregonian Molly Blue, reporting a growing list of candidates for the job.

As both sources, report differences in their lists as the number of possible candidates for the job is growing at a rapid pace and the majority of these looking very capable of putting the Mighty PTFC in a notable position coming next campaign.

Still what do the Portland Timbers want in a new manager, with the last tenure winning and improvising were the number one attributes performed by Caleb Porter.

This club is looking forward to start putting in its roster players in their early twenties touted as possible prospects to one-day substitute the likes of Diego Valeri and Chara both of them in their thirties an age in soccer seen as a bit mature but at risk for a number of possible injuries.

Second, the new Boss needs to have the boldness and keen eye on new talent; hence, the comparison to Tottenham Mauricio Pochettino considered the best manager to have an eye for new prospects and that is the man to see in the Timbers helm.

Remember youth is the future and instead of spending monies in players that not adjust to the scheme of the manager and even MLS, regardless of the country they come from, discovering and providing opportunity to young players will be solution in the long term.

By taking advantage of the arsenal, the Timbers have in Valeri, Naagbe, Blanco, Guzman and Chara and start the developing of Ebobisse as well institute in Mattocks more confidence and a formation that these two can develop and awaken their scoring drive.

The following candidates are considered so far as the ideal for the vacancy left by Caleb Porter difficult to fill but not impossible if any of these can bring with him a series of new tactics and a new style of football.

At the end, one of these chaps can be the chosen one.

Giovanni Savarese- New York Cosmos- NASL

The Venezuelan native during his stint with the Cosmos in the new North American Soccer League, he has a total of 26 matches under the helm of this cash strapped club and developed a record of 17 wins, 6 draws and 3 losses for a winning percentage of  65.38.

His honors include NASL Championship Soccer Bowl 2013 and 2016, NASL fall season 2013 and 2015.

A front-runner and heavily favorite to take over the job with the credentials shown in the Big Apple, odds of getting hired 25-1.

Marc Dos Santos- San Francisco Deltas

For yours very truly, the CV this man comes loaded with a lot of positives and for me the overall favorite to take over the destinies of the Portland Timbers. Despite lacking MLS experience, this will not be a problem to take it as his next challenge.

For The he City of Mary native, in his managerial career has developed an impressive winning record with squads of the likes of Ottawa Fury of the NASL, netting this league manager of the year 2015 for his work in this club. Another plus is his work in Brazil development league with Deportivo Palmeiras U-15 winning the shield in 2012 a first for this club.

Other successful stints are with Swope Park Rangers in the USL, led them to a fourth place finish conference winners, and lost the league final.

His latest achievement was with the San Francisco Deltas winning the shield in this club first year by beating the New York Cosmos.

This is the person Portland should be addressing to substitute Caleb Porter and with the impressive array of honors this is the man to see in 2018, no doubt about it!

Robin Fraser- Assistant Toronto FC

Another man under the close eye of the Portland Timbers front office, so far, his experience as an assistant and achievements include a Supporters Shield, MLS Cup and Eastern Conference winners.

Under TFC manager Greg Vanney years in TFC, Fraser has amassed a wealth of wisdom from this man by seeing a developing a winner in the Eastern Conference in the Reds, and coming to the semifinals in this conference these come with the label of heavy favorites to win it all in this edition of MLS.

So far, in the radar and with his experience in MLS and once a manager of that failed Chivas USA, his stocks can raise to come to Providence Park but with a 40 to 1 odds of making it.

Greg Berthaler- Columbus Crew

The man that his first job as a manager was in Sweden’s top flight Allsvenskan, with Hammarby footboll and despite his brief work, that earn him a spot with Columbus Crew that lead to the 2015 MLS final losing to the Portland Timbers.

His honors as an assistant with Los Angeles Galaxy are a 2009 MLS Cup, 2010 and 2011 Supporters Shield and two Western Conference titles in 2009 and 2011, and with Columbus a second place finish in the 2015 MLS Cup and 2015 Eastern Conference Winners.

This man so far is in the middle of his club tug of war with the City of Columbus and the new ownership of the Crew possible move to Austin, Texas if a public funding stadium not built, odds of Bethaler coming to Portland 10-1.

Tab Ramos-U-20 USMNT

Appointed by Jürgen Klinsmann as his assistant in the USMNT, still the achievements and hard work had paid off for Ramos under the helm of the U-20 squad.

Despite some setbacks in 2013 failing to qualify for the 2013 CONCACAF U-20 Championship losing to Mexico, still the team qualified to same year U-20 FIFA World Cup, failing to make it into the stage group.

Returning to action in 2017 and wining the CONCACAF U-20 Championship for the United States with Omid Namazi and Brad Friedel, still a lack of managing experience in the professional levels can be a little doubtful, but not a disqualified.

The odds for Ramos to make his debut in Rose City are a long shoot of 80-1.
