Shane Duffy sent the
whole of Aviva and the Republic of Ireland into frenzy with an early goal and getting
a glimpse of Russia 2018 within 84 minutes of sealing the deal.
In this case, do not count
your chickens before they hatch as well underestimate your foes regardless of
the positive results you had against them on your past performances.
As tonight the day
that the Republic of Ireland were to seal the seal were given an all-around
lesson in offensive football and exposing a meltdown in its backfield that
succumbed to the push and inspiration of a well-known Premiership chap.
Ask that to Christian
Eriksen, the Spurs prodigy who crowns an amazing performance with a treble of a
match and delivering the unthinkable of a heavily favorite Ireland squad playing
at home were these are not an easy prey.
As the Danes proved
the contrary and expose many frailties in their hosts initial eleven, all match
long.
A loss that hurts all
the efforts and achievements this squad progresses shown since the takeover by
the man from North Ireland always going
to the last legs to deliver as these did on the past Euro and now in the World
Cup qualifiers.
Nothing compared to
that game in Copenhagen were the Greens did shutdown the whole Danish armada, especially
Eriksen and company and today at home the Tottenham man did took advantage of
all the liberties and spaces shown in the course of the match.
After Duffy opening
goal, in the 29, Andreas Christensen even the score and before halftime Eriksen
made his presence felt with a nice shoot in the 32 to give Denmark the lead on
the end of the first half.
As the second, half
started a persistent Danes opening many opportunities to score until Eriksen
seal the deal in the 63 and 74, and the penal taken care by Nicklas Bendtner in
the 90 were the icing on the cake for the visiting Red and White.
The only difference
this time the Green Army were stunned and upset at home and by a rout by the visiting
Danes that never stopped in their quest of delivering a wondrous performance
that brought them the last ticket from Europe into the grand fete of football.
Still my hats off to
a fighting and inspiring display of a one of a kind football the Boys in Green
had in the international stages that made a whole nation dream as well looking
forward to write history as a first for both Ireland squads competing in this
event.
Despite the loss this
is a learning experience and this bunch needs to regroup for the next set of qualifiers
to Europe and World Cup competition as well see a continuance of Martin O’
Neill in the helm of the Republic of Ireland.
Very well, a nation
so proud and hopeful of this squad improving its performances and elevating its
levels compared to other international squads considered the top ranked ones, as
one day the Boys in Green will deliver those joys to its amazing and top class followers.
For now just applaud
the efforts of the Boys in Green, as this project is far from over and now
focus in the future and build an all-around contender as talent galore in the
Republic of Ireland players just in need of a little direction and more
confidence like the one shown in the past Euro.
