Major League Soccer 2018- DC United looking forward to return to its old glories

For DC United, this squad considered as one of the pioneers of Major League Soccer since the beginning of this association in 1996 and writing memorable pages in its history as a squad that has won it all.

With honors that range in 4 MLS Cups, one CONCACAF Cup, one Interamericana Cup 4 Supporters Shield, 3 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, 5 Eastern Conference Shields and 6 Eastern Conference first place finishes.

Adding to their long collection of trophies various Atlantic Cups, Carolina Challenge Cups, ATX Pro Challenge and Puerto Rico MLS- USL Challenge, this club has a long tradition of being an all-around winner.

Still the past years the club has been experiencing a sort of trophy less drought and last campaign the club occupy the infamous cellar in the Eastern Conference making it a tough year and one its manager Ben Olsen would like to forget.

Ever since the United Alumni took over in its helm, Ben Olsen been credited to just winning a lone US Open Cup in 2013 and some postseason appearances, still the Black and Red has seen its share of struggles and not experiencing a one of a kind campaign.

Something under the orders of manager Olsen the DC Untied group has been on the task of rebuilding this squad from the bottom up and looking forward to a stellar campaign especially when these open up their new home in Audi Field.

As this 2018 the colossus of Buzzard Point, in July 14 of this year when the Black and Red takes over their new place to call home in this 20,000 colossus the club directives have been hard at work to bring the necessary reinforcements to make this squad a total contender.

DC United will host the Vancouver Whitecaps as their first match in Audi Field.

Becoming the eighteenth squad in all of MLS of having its own venue, the aim of becoming an all-around contender is a must to make this a stellar campaign as well highlight it at the end with a postseason berth and a successful one.

So far, in the preseason the DC United bunch has acquired a several players important for their aspirations, the arrival of Venezuelan midfielder Junior Moreno from Zulia FC, Costa Rican midfielder Ulises Segura- Saprissa FC, Frenchman defender Frederick Brilliant- NYCFC.

By reinforcing their frontal attack with Jamaican, forward Darren Mattocks- Portland Timbers, Hungarian forward Zoltan Stieber- FC Kaiserlautern and forward Paul Arriola- Xolos Tijuana of the Mexican League and former Whitecaps keeper David Ousted.

As the training rounds are to open in all of Major League Soccer camps, Steve Clark has re-signed a new contract as well an exchange between DC United and Swansea AFC to train Jalen Robinson and Patrick Mullins.

Moreover, the players the United squad selects in the draft and the HGP these sign will a boost in opening more spots to young prospects in campaigns to come and see who of these will deliver a spot and a stellar career in the squad.

Still the need of getting some players to fill the roster of this squad ahead of the campaign will be  seen in the upcoming weeks to boost this squad initial eleven and perform and deliver a one of a kind campaign.

At the end the DC United via its captain Steve Birnbaum he and his Black and Red are up, ready to a new campaign, and make a decent run in this 2018 in their quest of netting a shield or two and make a return to the first spots in their conference.

At the end, DC United will need to display a campaign with a squad hungry and determined to be finish in the top spots and deliver a return to the promised land of the post season.

Despite the likes of Audi Field opening and being the home of the DCU, my overall forecast if this squad does not get a couple of notable players will way above sixth place and possibly with o chance to make it into the playoffs.
