This 2018 the Montreal Impact is looking forward to a stellar run after a disastrous campaign that denied them the postseason despite being so close to it and this time its owner Joey Saputo is aiming for league glories.
Very well seeing how their cross the 401 foes the Toronto FC winning the league in astounding fashion.
I mean that hurts when your archrival becomes the first ever-Canadian squad of the three competing in Major League Soccer to win this association highest honor as well displaying a one of kind campaign crowned with a foursome.
However, do not count the likes of Mr. Saputo squad out of competition and with a laid-back attitude with his squad, as one of his first moves in the campaign was to bring a new man to take over the helm of his Le Gars.
As the Remi Garde era is under way as the Impact is entering into its eight year of operations in league play and the closest these been to the Eastern Conference finals were they lost in 2016 against the Toronto FC.
So far, the Impact with its fifth manager ever since their inception to Major League Soccer play in 2012, the Montreal squad has written many memorable pages in its history of league play as well on the international stages of CONCACHAMPIONS League.
By finishing as runner ups after losing in the final against La Liga MX side Team America to 5-3, but before that, they eliminated a couple of these zone heavyweights in Mexican powerhouse Pachuca and Costa Rica Alajuelense.
Still with an owner as ambitious and lengthy vision in football matters, Joey Saputo so by far is building in what looks an armada and anytime he can give us a surprise of signing a bomb of a top of the line player or two of international recognition.
Besides the slow pace or indifference seen in the City of Mary front office in adding players to the reinforce this squad ahead of this upcoming campaign as several players left to retirement or waived by the club, move to another club or via trade.
Le Gars are working slowly, first to assure some of their important players of the likes of their leader Ignacio Piatti to a millionaire extension but well worth the investment in the Argentina that has carried this squad ever since his debut.
The arrival of some players via trade were Raheem Edwards that became champion with Toronto and selected in the expansion draft by newcomer LAFC, along the likes of defender Jukka Raitala in exchange for their experienced defender Laurent Ciman going to Tinsel Town.
Also the arrival of goalkeepers Clement Diop that played with the LA Galaxy and Jason Beaulieu from the University of New Mexico, reinforcing this area, with youth being in their minds and the addition in their roster.
By investing in promising players, the Impact added a couple into their homegrown corps worth keeping from Montreal FC in James Pantemis and defender Thomas Meilleur- Guiguere the Impact are betting on these lads to make a lengthy stay with the team.
In addition, of losing the likes of Blerim Dzemaili, the optimism of Saputo seeing an open transfers market in Europe, MLS draft and with his scouts busy at work in various leagues especially looking for the right players in South America.
As the interest persists for a couple of players in Algerian midfielder Saphir Taïder from Bologna and Uruguayan striker Rodrigo Aguirre property of Udinense, but the Impact has competition in the LA Galaxy to get the Andean.
One thing for sure the Impact new manager is a person well connected and he can make things happen anytime, but in his mind it looks like he is looking forward to observe the current crop of players and newcomers to conform an all-around contender.
For now Remi Garde era is looking forward in making the Impact a competitive squad and display a dominating game that at the end can became for the benefit of his squad, so come this January 23 Montreal will open training camp.
