Dundalk back in track and back in first place

Derry City 1, Dundalk FC 4
Brandywell Stadium, Derry City
For Stephen Kenny and his Lilywhites is business as usual, by netting an important win in Brandywell against a tough Candystripes at home, is somehow an achievement after the way these are playing lately. Not only was a convincing but scandalous win, in the Airtricity Monday night football.

With the stage set at Brandywell this match between the Lilywhites and local Candystripes being a force not to reckon with at home, today their offensive attacks considered lethal in league circles was put on hold by an inspired De Town.

As the visiting Dundalk Lilywhites after their win at home over a sluggish Sligo Rovers and for the local Derry Boys draw against Cork City, as this match had all the elements of a contested affair by both squads after the way these are playing.

This clash of titans was the ideal moniker to call in today’s affair in Derry has newly renovated venue that show off its best galas with a near sold out attendance. This match considered a total upset over the home squad after these lately netting simple draws and todays was the exception losing in what seemed a vital match against the visitors.

As they, state there is no place like home, for the Candystripes jumping on the board early in the match with a nice goal by Darren Cole in the 12 minute after a 20 yard shot that went over the head of the Town goalkeeper Gary Rodgers.

Despite the efforts of the visitors of looking forward to open the score, these were not lucky and the local’s beat them, still there was enough time for both squads, in one to start a comeback or the other to extend the lead.

On the 28 minute is when disaster hit the local squad when Brian Gartland opened the score for the visiting Lilywhites after a Michael Duffy corner that found a well-placed Gartland to even the score.

The second goals of the match came in the 33 minute with Robbie Benson doing an individual effort and rounding keeper Gerard Doherty to beat him and send the ball to an empty net for the second goal of the afternoon. Going to halftime the visitors had the lead and control of the match.

After the start of the second half we brace for another dominant prone Lilywhite squad over their hosts, with the match under way in the second half, its Dundalk Michael Duffy scored the go ahead goal in the 50 minute.

So far, the local Foylesiders were showing an erratic defensive backfield and allowing many liberties to the visitors, still these could manage to get a break in the dominance of the Lilywhites defenders and looking forward to an open spot.

However, this match was to belong to the visitors when Hungarian midfielder scored the last goal in the boots of Krisztián Adorján to seal the deal and assure the Town three golden points.

This win allows the Town to leapfrog the Rebel Army in the overall table with a two points lead, recover the top spot with a match next week at Phibsborough, and play against hot-streaked Bohemians at Dalymont Park in Dublin.
