Waterford returns to its old scoring ways in a valuable win

Waterford finally broke its bad streak with a goal rout over Derry City at home in RSC. With a three goal spree in the first half and one in the end of the second, the Blues sealed the deal and returning to its winning ways.

For Alan Reynolds seeing his side finally shaken their oddities and with a resounding and convincing win playing with all the comforts of home, beating a hardened Derry City, many see it like a step in the right direction.

Still despite the goal rout, the visiting Candystripes never let go on their quest of making a comeback and even in the early  minutes of the match, these had a clear opportunity of opening the scoreboard but an off target Aaron McEneff sent his shoot a little too wide.

The unfortunate part of the Derry Boys today their strategies and game did not deliver, despite their last week result in their favor and their resurgent ways that made them escalate in the overall table, today these were nonexistent.

Give credit for the game opening goal to an opportune and accurate Waterford midfielder Faysel Kasmi corner kick that defender Rory Feely did not wasted his opportunity to score the opening goal in the 12 minute.

The second goal of Waterford came two minutes later when Izzy Akinade took advantage of the gap conceded by Derry City defense to score the second goal of the afternoon  and the locals looking like they had totally dominated this match.

No later in the 40 minute when the Blues Estonian international Sander Puri seeing another opportunity he did not hesitated to shoot from 30 yards out and beating the likes of Derry’s goalkeeper  Ger Doherty for the go ahead goal.

So far going into halftime break and with a lead, this affair was far from over as the Candystripes are known to be resilient and with a mettle of not going up so easily, and after surrender three goals, this was not over yet. With 45 minutes left in the clock to finish this meeting, the visitors saw a glimpse of hope ahead in the second half.

Still the so-called Derry City comeback never became a reality after the home side manager Alan Reynolds sent a game of pure pressing against the visitor’s feeble defense overtaken by the home side in the course we can say of the whole match.

As another goal was to come for the home side when Stanley Aborah in the 92 with a 25 yarder of a strike to beat the Candystripes goalkeeper and Captain Ger Doherty that despite his efforts he could not reach the ball for the final score of 4-0.

At the end for manager, Alan Reynolds all his moves paid off with a tumultuous score accompanied by three points of gold and a win that revives his side race to the league top and being within ten points of league leader Dundalk.

This win gives the Blues a six-point edge over Derry City in the race for third place and getting some positive momentum towards their next week match away at Turner’s Cross against the defending champions Cork City.
