Recap of a weekend filled with upsets in the League of Ireland


A one of a kind weekend of pure football excitement and upsets in the League of Ireland as well seeing the return to the top of the league in a determined Rebel Army. Imagine a club destined for relegation and now fighting for its survival and cutting another its winning ways. 

As relegation prone Bray Wanderers netting an important win, followed by Waterford amazing campaign and stopping cold the lads of De Town at RSC, the Pats winning the Dublin Derby and the Bohs return to the plus side.

Talking about upsets, going to Carlisle Grounds and for a troublesome group in the Seagulls, hosting a hot streaked Derry City that saw its fortunes dwindled with a spoiler with a last minute score by the locals. 

With a double from Bray Ronan Coughlan scoring in the 60 and 72 and despite the efforts of the Candystripes Nicky Low 60 tying the score after the locals second goal their defensive game stepped up for the win.

Bray Wanderers 2, Derry City 1

In this edition of the Dublin Derby the Pats and Hoops square off in Inchicore at Richmond Park as the local Pats deliver mayhem to the visiting Rovers not seeing the daylight in these competitions.

For the Hoops manager Stephen Bradley, not seeing a consistency in his group this is a cause for his concern, for Liam Buckley Pats this win is a confidence booster and getting ahead in this editions of the capital derbies. The Saints scorers were Kevin Toner 56 and Killian Brennan 89.

Saint Patrick’s Athletic 2, Shamrock Rovers 0

In the Regional Sports Centre, the local and surprising Waterford Blues deliver a heartbreaking defeat to the visiting Lilywhites and tying them in second place after Cork City win and becoming the sole occupier of first place. 

For the local Blues scorers were Ismail Akinade with a double in the 45 minutes of before the end of the first half and for the visiting De Town Ronan Murray did it before the end of the first half.

Waterford 2, Dundalk FC 1

At the Showgrounds’ the local Bit O’ Red looking to deliver another win at home, these suffer a setback from the visiting Bohemians who got a win and a clean sheet for a valuable win. 

With scores from Daniel Grant netting a double score in the 68 and 85 minutes to deliver an important, win by adding three valuable points. 

Sligo Rovers 0, Bohemians 2

In Turners Cross, the local Leesiders continue their mastery over their league rivals with a notable win despite the visiting Super Blues scare, still for John Caulfield and company persevere for the win and occupying first place. 

For the Rebel Army scorers were Graham Cummins 36 and Josh O’ Hanlon 70 and for the Limerick Boys these opened the score in the 34 minute via a goal from Daniel Morrisey.
