Samuel Armenteros delivered a Rocky Mountain high win for the PTFC

Colorado Rapids 2, Portland Timbers 3
Dicks Sporting Goods Park, Commerce City, Colorado

For manager Giovanni Savarese for the Colorado match he had foreseen a couple of moves in his initial eleven, with Andres Flores starting in place of  Andy Polo on international duty and Samuel Armenteros for Fanendo Adi.

After last weekend first score against the LAFC that earned him a laud and a nomination as the goal of the week for the Swede, today playing against a struggling Colorado squad he delivered with a double.

Not today he came in the second half as what has become the opportune substitute along with Andres Flores another one penciled in the initial eleven sent by Giovanni Savarese in today’s match in Dicks Sporting Goods Park in Commerce, Colorado.

Today’s match had all the elements of an all-around challenge between the visitors and the struggling Colorado Rapids displaying a mediocre and negative record that has seeded the Rocky Mountain Boys in last spot in the Western Conference.

With the momentum the Portland Boys were coming to this match and in a place where they have been unsuccessful in the past and just earning a win in ten matchups, the heat was on for the Rose City squad.

still the odds of netting a notable result in what they have labeled as their house of horrors, today these were going to change that with a nice win that could been ended with a clean sheet but a couple of miscues from their center back.

After a one two combination from Sebastian Blanco as the Andean delivering a one of kind campaign that maybe be touted as a possible league MVP as the way he has been producing in the field and today was no exception.

In the first play that lead to Portland’s first score, when Sebastian Blanco passes to Armenteros and the Swede making a nice cut over the Colorado defender to send a volley out of reach from Tim Howard and opening the score in the 29 minute.

Then came a pressure from Colorado when its defender Edgar Castillo beating Portland’s defender Alvas Powell and sending a center that the visitors center back Julio Cascante trying to clear with his heel as he wanted to pass and scoring on his OG. As the score tied in the 31st minute, it looked like Colorado was on the verge of turning this match around.

Unfortunately, that tie did not last for a long time for the local Coloradoans, when once again, Samuel Armenteros made his usual appearance in the middle of the field and passing to Sebastian Blanco, he sent a center and barely touched by Howard. Here Samuel with a header scored the second goal of the match and the Timbers taking the lead in the 37 minute.

As the Portland squad once again mastering this match, in a refused corner, Sebastian Blanco started a counter and passing to a wide open Diego Valeri that scored the go-ahead goal in the 56 minute in what seemed an easy win.

Still the local Rapids had some fight in them as manger Hudson in halftime making a couple of substitutions and later in the match making a difference in the locals attack and by putting pressure in the final minutes.

Despite a goal annulled to the Colorado squad by the game official and via VAR citing an offside, in the 98 minute this time Yannick Bolli scored the second goal for Colorado for the losing cause and this being the last play of the match.

With this win, the Portland Timbers earned their sixth consecutive match in the plus and now tied in second place with LAFC and FC Dallas making it interesting in the Western Conference.
