Waterford making it interesting in the League of Ireland

Waterford 2, Dundalk 1
Regional Sports Centre, Waterford

For now, we have a tie in the top of the Airtricity League of Ireland. Three squads tied in the top of the overall table, when many thought that this race was to be only between Dundalk and Cork City.

Surprise, surprise, as the recently promoted Waterford who ever thought that they were going to put on a fight and be aspiring to be in the top spots in the Republic  of Ireland Premiership.

With 31 points for each and a notable if not upset of the week for the visiting Lilywhites seeing their luck dwindle whenever these are playing as visitors, something that manager Kenny needs to improve from his side.

As this match, started seeing all the fireworks in the second half with a double from Ismail Akinade who delivers  a couple of scores in the 47 and 52 minutes to seal the deal for his Blues now fighting for a spot in the league prime spot.

Still the visiting Dundalk squad managed to get a reaction in the 55-minute courtesy a goal from Ronan Murray but at the end the Lilywhites rally fell short of its commitment and these suffered a lethal blow to their title aspirations.

However, the league is in its early stages and entering in its peak being in the summer not only two squads but also three will headline this campaign close race to see who will nab top spot and claim the league shield as champions.

I mean we have a Cinderella story with Alan Reynolds and company paying a one of a kind game of football and delivering notable results in the campaign for many of the squad’s amazement of how a newly promoted squad is doing so well.

The Blues so far in the campaign are one tough foe to beat at home, displaying an unbeaten record as well playing away. Still for the Blues manager Alan Reynolds not foreseeing how his squad was going to be in this stages of the championship fighting for the top spots.

Opening the possibilities of a spot in the Europa League and imagine if they win the league, as possibly earning a Champions League knockout early rounds if these finish in the end atop the league.

For now is one match at a time for the Waterford crew that in every match these played like they are involved in an all-around final, so far with three months of league competition the Blues are solidly holding in the top spots.

Returning to today’s match and after the locals sending the whole of Regional Sports Centre into frenzy after Akinade back-to-back goals, the reaction of the former league champions De Town came immediately after Murray seeing a continuance in his scoring streak.

At the end the night belonged to the local Blues holding their ground and not allowing the Lilywhites attack of growing more comfortable in the game they are the most comfortable with and more lethal, as the Blues defense prevail and held the visitors at bay.
