A Fourth of July recap in a busy Major League Soccer


Major League Soccer midweek activities with six matches scheduled with Tuesday one match between the Houston Dynamo and newcomers LAFC. However, on Independence Day we saw the action step up with five wild matches. 

On Tuesday, the Boys of the LAFC were to face off the likes of the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Stadium in Houston, a first for both of these squads facing off and with a total shootout between these two squads. 

With a an early lead started by the visiting Angelinos, scoring Latif Blessing 5’ and Mark- Anthony Kaye 72’ the reaction on injury time by the Orangemen was with Mauro Manotas 94’ and Phillipe Senderos 96’ for the tie. 

Houston Dynamo 2, LAFC 2

The highlight of MLS Independence Day action was this match between the Loons and the defending champions Reds of TFC, as the local Minnesota squad delivered a one of a kind match.

So far, in the campaign the Toronto squad is facing an uphill battle, with scores from Justin Morrow 42’, Sebastian Giovinco 70’ and Jordan Hamilton 94’, for the locals Darwin Quintero delivered a treble in the 8’, 52’ and 57’ and Miguel Ibarra 13’. The locals coming out of a three game skid.

Minnesota United 4, Toronto FC 3

In Toyota Park in Dallas, the local FC came victorious with a notable win over the top squad in MLS Atlanta United, despite a double from United Josef Martinez 41’ and 73’ wre not enough to stop a inspired locals. 

With Dallas loss of Mauro Diaz overseas, the Hoops made an all-around effort and scoring was Reto Ziegler 22’ and a double too from Tesho Akindele in 86’ and 88’ were enough to seal the win at home and continue undefeated in Frisco. 

FC Dallas 3, Atlanta United 2

In the Mile High State, the Seattle Sounders after a loss in the Cascadia Derby their manager Brian Schmetzer is looking at any cost a win and at Dicks Sporting Goods and start their climb with a revival. 

With an early, score from Seattle Will Bruin 19’, the Sounders had the control of the match, but with Colorado Sam Nicholson tie the match 40’ but later in the 59’ again Will Bruin delivered the game-winning with a double of an afternoon. 

Colorado Rapids 1, Seattle Sounders 2

Rio Tinto saw how its Royals rallying from an early score from SKC Daniel Salloi 20’ to see an immediate reaction from Jefferson Savarino 29’, Corey Baird 37’ and Sebastian Saucedo 46’. 

The local RSL had the lead and with another score from SKC Ike Opara 64’ but rally back to seal the win with a late score from Luis Silva via a penal 100’ to net an important win against first place SKC.

Real Salt Lake 4, Sporting Kansas City 2

For DCU coming from behind and tying the match despite and early lead taken by the LA Galaxy playing as a local and seeing their chance to be a domain force at home, these are dropping would be wins at home. 

Once again Zlatan Ibrahimovic  opened the score in the 5’ and Chris Pontius 25’, the Galaxy Boys looked like they were going to deliver an easy win but the visiting DCU came from behind with goals from Zoltan Zieber 26’ and Darren Mattocks 85’.
