Bray, Derry and Dundalk wins, tops a contested League of Ireland recap


With a squad in a dire economic chaos and threats of its relegation and exodus of several of its most notable players, this week they deliver an important win at home over a slumping Sligo Rovers squad. 

With Dundalk come from behind win at Inchicore over the Pats and Derry City, back in the winning column, added to an upsetting tie at Turners Cross between the Rebel Army and the surging Hoops. Opening the doors to the Town side atop the league overall table with a four points lead. 

A rare Sunday match scheduled in Wicklow colossus of Carlisle Grounds, the local bray Boys delivered a much needed win over a slumping Sligo Rovers squad, not seeing how to get out of their latest string of troubles. 

For the Seagulls scores from Gerald Pender 15’ minute and sealing the deal to break the deadlock at a goal each was Sean Heaney 75’ for the Bit O’ Red Adam Wixted scoring in the 55’ minute.

Bray Wanderers 2, Sligo Rovers 1

In the Regional Sports Center in Waterford the Blues barely squeezed by with a come from behind goal from Bastien Hery 64’ minute,  after the visiting Gypsies opening goal in the first half via Daniel Corcoran in the 31’.

This tie and share of points keeps the Waterford side seven points in the clear in third place from a resurgent Shamrock Rovers nearing in the recently promoted Blues.

In Turner’s Cross at least the defending champions the Lessiders of Cork City can state perfection but with an upsetting ending after the visiting Shamrock Rovers defensive shield shut the City strikers down.

In Brandywell Stadium, finally the local Candystripes delivered a much needed win over the visiting and troubled Limerick Super Blues, these two seeing a departure of several players and looking for a revival.

After the visiting Super Blues opened the score in the 35’ minute by Conor Ellis, but the locals response was immediate in the 37’ Aaron Spline and the game winner Alistair Roy in the 46’.

Derry City 2, Limerick FC 1

In Inchicore, the local Pats had their hands full with the visit of the league leaders Dundalk FC, so far, the Town Boys are one unstoppable winning machine and another gem of match these now are clear in the top. 

With an early, score from the Saints Jake Keegan in the 25’ minute, the Pats with a successful defensive match  until the Town side started mayhem, with Patrick Hoban in the double 51’ and 90’ along Chris Shields 58’ to seal the deal.
