With round one in the
books, the Shamrock Rovers are looking forward to their second round meet
against Czech Republic’s side FK Mlada Boleslav.
As the Hoops playing
at Tallaght Stadium with a lone score from Graham Burke, the squad of Stephen
Bradley sealed the deal, with a 2-0 aggregate, focusing now on round two.
Facing an unknown foe
that will be handful for the Dublin Boys but not a difficult one, these prepare
to make their best of performances in this series to try to make the best of
its rivals and advance into the third round.
Still with round one
in the past and sealing the deal with just a couple of goals , one in each
match, Iceland side Stjarnan showed up some fight but at the end succumb to the
Ireland side utmost performance in its defense.
Starting with a
brilliant and heroic Tomer Chencinski, who deliver two one of kind performances
in this series and keeping the Iceland strikers at bay as well preserving his
clean sheets for both matches.
Another plus for the
Rovers, was its defensive backfield putting on a good show in all 180 minutes
and not allowing any liberties to the opposition with its foursome playing a
top-notch football.
These two wins and
next round play, deliver a nice payday for their all-around feat of €225,000.
After their win at
Reykjavik, the Rovers were sure of their foes might and ways of converting that
lone goal scored in Icelandic lands, of making it a double if not a triple to
try to play the role of spoilers at home of the Irish side.
As stated above about
the defensive set of heroics performed by the Hoops backfield and keeper,
stopping every intent and offensive breakout the Icelanders had for a good aprt
of the match, and these prevailing.
Despite the second
goal of the series by Burke, this as a sort of incentive for the visitors to
put in display a more offensive and aggressive game towards their target
defended successfully all afternoon long by Chencinsky.
Another hero despite
the loss was Stjarnan goalie Haraldur Bjornssoson who stopped many sure goals
shoots from the Hoops Brandon Miele and Michael O’ Connor.
For the losing cause,
their reaction throughout the whole course of the match seen with a series of
shoots from Olafur Finsen, Eyjolful Hedinsson and Hillmar Ani Halldorsson.
At the end,
perseverance was the ideal trait earned by the locals, alongside desire to wrap
this one up and advance into the next stage along with a nice pay.
Come Thursday July
13, Tallaght will show off its best galas to see its Boys take on Czech
Republic side and a week later the second leg to be played at Mlada Boleslav Metsky Stadion.
Still the Shamrock
Rovers are up, ready to take on their next challenge and move on until they
reach their utmost, and coveted of goals, the Group Stage denied to them in
2011, this time they have the confidence.
