The Portland Timbers
since the let go became one of the most dominant squad in today’s match at
Providence Park, after playing to one of Major League Soccer most renewed and
dominant of squads.
As the Chicago Fire
since the arrival of Bastian Schweinsteiger to its ranks, he has been a
valuable element in its revival and especially its offensive attack.
That has given this
squad the label of all-around favorite to win it all in this edition of MLS.
Before this match
many though that the visiting Men in Red were missing very important players in
its initial eleven, at the end for their manager Veljko Paunovic luck smile at
him.
Despite not having
Bastian Schweinsteiger on the lineup due to a hip injury and defender Dax
McCarty on international call up, the incorporation of David Accam and Nemanja
Nikolic at the end was sufficient for manager Paunovic.
For the host Portland
Timbers squad missing some of its notable players from its lineup due to
injuries and national team duty, Caleb Porter known for his improvisations sent
an eleven poised to fight every minute and deliver.
Still for the locals
with the support of their public, these displayed a grand game of football with
a series of near arrivals to the posts of Matt Lampson, but luck was today on
the side of the Fire Boys who escape with a draw and a point.
As the balance, weights
still in favor of the Portland Timbers that have not loss a match yet, to the
Windy City squad as well very dominant in the course of the whole match.
Still another draw
for the Rose City squad and siting pretty in fourth place, the Timbers as next
week have the opportunity to deliver an important win with conference
archrivals Real Salt Lake playing a not so effective football lately.
With the absences in
the Timbers eleven of Diego Chara and Liam Ridgewell injuries and David Guzman
and Alvas Powell national team duty, the PTFC managed to put in the field a top
class and dominant match all ninety
minutes.
The Portland Timbers
via their main playmaker Diego Valeri and Faneando Adi making the best of
keeping the Chicago defense at bay, with shoots that almost beat the posts
defended by Matt Lampson.
The goals of this
match came in the 23rd minute, when Fire’s Juninho was call with a
handball inside the area and Adi scoring the first goal of the match, but ten minutes later came Chicago answer
with an assistance from Arturo Alvarez to Nemanja Nikolic for the equalizer.
After the half with
David Accam and Arturo Alvarez again making a presence in the Chicago attack,
he passed the ball to Brandon Vincent to give the Fire the lead in the 61.
Nevertheless, do not
count the mighty PTFC out, as the combination between Diego Valeri and
Sebastian Blanco with a nice shoot even the score in what became the final
score of the match and for Blanco scoring his fourth goal of the year.
With Portland having
several opportunities at the end, the perseverance of Chicago and its stingy
defense, these prevailed to a 2-2 tie.
