With just four matches
in the league of Ireland on the weekend and a match played on Sunday made it
five, after three of its squads had international compromises in the UEFA
Europa League.
So far, this became a
break for the Dundalk FC chaps playing a tough and possessed football, with a
winning streak and return of their old football, they are showing off why they
were three times the league of Ireland champions.
By playing in always-tough
Carlisle Grounds, the Seagull is too coming from a nice streak and looking
forward to close the gap on the Lilywhites in the race for second, the locals
were for a surprise.
Not today as Harry
Kenny and his bunch were given a blank sheet with a double courtesy of Robbie
Benson 2 and 26, adding to the locals misery the third goal courtesy of Peter
Mc Eleney 63’.
As the Boys from the Town
are closing in on league leaders Cork City within twelve points and these with
a game pending.
At Inchicore, the
Saints equalized o tier match against low flying Galway United, despite the
point sharing both squads still submerged with their respective relegation troubles.
With the St. Pats Conan
Byrne opening the score in the 48 the Tribesmen via Padraig Cunningham 83, the
visitors ruined the local’s plans to deliver three points and maybe move a bit
to the league top spots.
Still a point is a point,
favors a little the hope of the Saints and its Boss Liam Buckley in his quest
of salvaging this campaign, and keeping his Pats put in Ireland’s Premiership,
for Galway is back to the drawing boards.
For Peter Mahon the
Droghs Boss he is out of options when it comes to see his side deliver wins
considered vital if not important in their quest of seeing the day of another
campaign with in the big circuit.
As United Park saw
another frustrating evening with his Droghs not delivering and a visiting
Limerick side scoring them a couple of goals in what became a valuable win with
a 2-0 score.
With the Blues Robert
Williams 12 and Garbhan Coughlan 86 to deliver the win and move within Derry
City fifth spot position in fifth place and make a ruin towards the top three
spots.
Lastly, the battle of
the Rovers between the home side Sligo Rovers and Shamrock Rovers, these latter
ones coming from a busy week after their Iceland compromise in the Europa League.
Became a plus for the
Bit O’ Red playing host to the Hoops and with lone score via John Russell in
the 4-minute being the only score in what seemed to be a very physical and
temper flared match.
As John Russell saw
red and left his squad with just ten players in the pitch and still these
overcome six yellow cards, at the end Stephen Bradley and his Hoops after the positive
commotion they came from Reykjavik, they saw the reality at home.
At the end, this
short week in the League of Ireland with matches cancelled because of Derry City,
Cork City and Shamrock Rovers playing abroad at the knockout stages in the
Europa League.
