When it rain it pours
for the Portland Timbers, with a rout at home from arch rivals Real Salt Lake, coming
to town with the labels of all around underdogs.
Yesterday, these RSL
Boys turn the tide in their favor.
By far the PTFC has
become Portland’s General with the amount of players sidelined with injuries
and in every game, losing a player and running out of options if
not players, is manager Caleb Porter.
Adding to injuries,
we have a couple of suspensions in Adi and Arboleda, coming to their next match
in BC Place to face a hot streaked Vancouver Whitecaps.
So far, the defensive
woes continue to haunt the Timbers backfield and despite the debut of newcomer,
Larry Mabiala’s making a duo with Roy Miller accompanied in the sides by Chance
Myers and Zarek Valentin.
At the end, these
were no match for an inspired visiting RSL all around attack.
Rose City had a
chance to front a competitive and resilient RSL squad, even though these have
not displayed a magnificent campaign, as many state that there is no such thing
than an easy foe.
Still the way things
are going lately for Portland are somehow very bizarre with the amount of
injuries very well with a patch up squad and the question is how will they fare
or deliver results with a second or a third string squad.
Impossible, very well
the anguish and worry state that Caleb Porter is going in every press conference
and tonight being apologetic to the followers of this club for the recent wave
of results.
Very well, for some asking
for his dismissal, I believe that is utterly madness as this man since his
arrival at Rose City has made of this club a contender as well deliver the miracle
of 2015, if you remember.
The man is at no
fault at all and miracles he cannot do, but surely, he can deliver!
Another negative
still, is the lack of discipline in some players despite the unjust red card
shown to Victor Arboleda and pointed out by the RSL bench to game referee
Baldomero Toledo seen by many as an official lacking a just criterion.
The Timbers woes continued
to add up.
However, the red shown
to Adi and Beckerman was a just one and put a stop in the aggressiveness shown
by both squads when Salt Lake comes to Providence Park, but this situation
would been adequate if the fourth official would been involved.
When situations like
this happen, the Timbers game and its eleven in the field suffer a total meltdown,
as you recall when Diego Chara slap Ignacio Piatti in Montreal for a horrible
loss, in Minnesota Sebastian Blanco kick in the ground to Abu Danladi.
One situation that
needs put into an immediate halt as the absence of a player or two can really
damage the moral of the team as well its game going into their next compromises.
Everywhere in the
world, this considered as embarrassing and unacceptable.
This team has it all
to win, despite not having some of its players being on international play as
well in a senseless and imprudent Gold Cup tournament.
At the end people
need to believe in this club and despite the struggles recently the Portland
Timbers experience, patience will be a virtue by its fans.
For the team an
awakening needs to happen as soon as possible and a recipe for success is the need
of unity, discipline hunger, and teamwork to deliver wins and persevere in the end of
this campaign.
Still bizarre is the
ideal word to describe last night match in Providence Park with turns of events
that led to a horrible affair worth forgetting!
