Once again, the
thrill and action of Premiership is back in the colossus of Tyneside, as Saint
James embraces a major show time, as for its Boss Rafael Benitez this will be
an all-around challenge.
Despite this man
reputation and past record, his arrival at the Toon was a little too late and
he could not deliver a miracle, after all, he offered to continue at the helm
of this historic club and make a comeback.
Now after delivering
his first order of business of promoting the squad back to the big circuit, his
major feast will be of returning this club back into the top spots and glories
once it enjoyed before its latest’s troubles.
As in the campaign of
2009-10 after its return from Championship by Chris Houghton, a few years later
once again saw its demise by an indifferent ownership and until its awakening;
it was a little too late.
The club went into
relegation and played a one of a kind campaign in Championship to deliver the Sky
Bet Trophy out of Brighton, Hove and Albion grasps.
With a trouble
2014-15 campaign, not even the Spaniard magic and wisdom could not save this
club demise and seeing an encore of its relegation five years later.
For manager Benitez
it is back to business and in the ranks, he is very comfortable with, noting
fancy bought in the transfers market but cautious and a little careful of whom
is coming to play at the Toon.
So far, four names
highlight the expenditures performed by the think tanks at St. James, with
Christian Atsu from Chelsea and after a successful spell in Championship the
Magpies decided for the use of his services.
Another high mark is
the arrival of La Liga side SD Eibar defender Florian Lejeune considered one of
Benitez wish list player, Stefan O’ Connor- Arsenal and Josef Yarney- Everton
coming as free picks and assigned to U-23 squad for further development.
Still the shopping
spree for the Magpies is not over yet and maybe they can be looking for a
player or two to reinforce this squad attack and making it a contender like in
its old days.
The club preparation
chosen in County Kildare, Ireland, there they will sort a series of friendlies
against Heart of Midlothian, Preston North End, Bradford City, FSV Mainz 05,
VFL Wolfsburg and closing against Italian side Hellas Verona.
Ambitious preseason
and with the tune up, the hopes of this club making an impact on their return
to Premiership and facing on opening day a resilient and tough foe at home
Tottenham Hotspurs.
Then their second
match in league play against recently promoted Huddersfield Town away and
returning home to play in the United’s Derby against West Ham United.
The conclusion is
that this club is up and ready to make a stunning comeback and return to its
rightful place as the giants of Premiership with manager Rafael Benitez no
stranger to the English league and a man that can deliver.
No promise of a
shield or a fairy tale, still nothing written and maybe we can see a surprise
or two from this bunch, but a nice mid table finish will do for the Magpies and
away from the infamous relegation spots.
Now that will be a sigh of relief for its amazing fan base,
considered as the utmost dedicated and loyal in all of England football
circles.
However, a heartfelt
and warm welcome back and lookout Premiership for the Geordie Boys of Newcastle United.
