There is no place
like home, as Stephen Bradley and his Shamrock Rovers made a total statement today
in Tallaght of their intentions of netting a direct European pass by playing
today the infamous role of spoilers.
After delivering a fatal
blow, to League leaders Cork City in their quest of trying to make an all-around
celebration of becoming league champions, if these would win the match.
Their unfortunate destiny
was with an inspired Hoops squad making a total statement and playing tonight a
one of a kind match accompanied by a goal rout over the soon to become league winners.
Very well, in league
circles City considered with one of the best defenses.
So far, in the
campaign these have endured their third loss against squads of the likes of the
Bohemians, Sligo Rovers and today Shamrock Rovers.
I ask myself whatever
happened to the Leesiders extraordinary run and suddenly John Caulfield and company
are struggling to deliver a couple of wins that can deliver the long awaited
league shield denied three campaigns straight by Dundalk.
As soon the departures
of Sean Maguire and Kevin O’ Connor to England, City’s initial eleven are
starting to miss these two considered as one of their utmost important of play-makers.
This time were the
Hoops who celebrated loudly on their turf after two first half goals from Ronan
Finn in the 13 minute and followed later by Brandon Miele on the 20, were enough
to put the Rovers on their way to a notable win.
No later in the
second half when the Rebel Army via Gearoid Morrisey in the 70th was
not enough to motivate his side for a rally or stage a late comeback to at
least deliver a draw but the Hoops via Michael O’ Connor sealed the deal late
in the 85.
Despite the loss and
a win by Dundalk over the Pats, still the Leesiders have a comfortable lead and
the only way for the Lilywhites to stage a first spot takeover, City needs to
lose all of its remaining matches.
Nothing written for
the looks of it in the league of Ireland and for Cork City looking a victim of its
own pressures, these need to focus and play the way they started the campaign with
an spectacular twist.
Still in the case of
the local Rovers, delivering a notable win and jumping to third place appoint advantage
over the Candystripes and the Derry Boys with a match pending, today’s win
deliver a boost for Bradley and company.
Also giving them a
direct pass to Europe, but this decided until the end of this campaign.
At the end, Cork City
Boss John Caulfield will be in need of making all sorts of moves and update his
strategies for his next matches, looking forward for a bit of luck and looking
forward for their long awaited all around celebrations.
