After their misstep
in the early stages of this match were the Gunners after seven years of absence
in the Europa League, the London Boys
are back with a bang after delivering a notable 3-1 win over Cologne.
With the majority of
its starters, taking the night off to be well rested ahead of their upcoming
weekend league compromise against their cross town rivals Chelsea in London Derby.
Arsene Wegner did
plan ahead for this match and with a 3-4-3 formation with an attack headline by
Alexis Sanchez to lead off their attack towards their Bundesliga guests.
Versus their German counterpart,
Peter Stoger was sending a conservative but effective 4-1-4-1 with Colombian
striker John Cordoba headlining the Die
Geißböcke or the Billy Goats.
Despite the German sides
return to international completion after a long nonappearance on international competitions
like this, the outcome for this match favored heavily the Gunners on their condition
of local.
With the likes of
Danny Welbeck, Mezut Ozil, Alexandre Lacazette, Aaron Ramsey, Granit Xhaka,
Laurent Koscielny and Petr Cech being out of the stating eleven ahead of their
important league match.
Still these not missed
at all when a trio of Gunners in Sead Kolasinac, Alexis Sanchez and Hector
Bellerin who became at the end the heroes of the match thanks to their
opportune scores.
Very well, the initial
eleven to front this new European adventure for the Londoners was enough to deliver
all joy and confidence ahead of their Premiership adventure come this weekend as
their foes did had a magnificent performance in their Champions League debut.
Still the embarrassing
event staged by the visiting Cologne Fans, that did not stopped the Gunners all
around momentum and determination to wrap this up with style and on top to be
at the head of their group.
And with the chaos
around them the Gunners eleven were poised for everything and seek a win
regardless of the outcome they were being exposed too with policemen all around
the pitch and with dogs that did not took their attentions and focus out of the
game.
The early goal from the
visitors came in the 9 minute via Jhon Cordoba beating his fellow compatriot
David Ospina in a defensive lapse the keeper had.
Sending the locals faithful
their minds whirling for the worst to come and not looking forward to an early
Europa League fracas in their first match and after going to intermission with
a 1-0 lead favoring the visitors.
This was not over as Arsenal
when they want to exhibit a one of a kind football they do indeed display it
with an all-around pride as all of a sudden the second half become more kind to
their ambitions and game itself.
With a goal from Saed
Kolasinac the clean sheet was broken for FC Koln Timo Horn looking at the shoot
by the Bosnian in the 49, no later with just eighteen minutes went by and once again
the Gunners did the stunner with a second score.
As Alexis Sanchez
with a nice play in the 67 minute showing in the clock sent the whole of
Emirates into frenzy and uplifting his squad in the pitch with the leading
goal, but the night had a place too for Hector Bellerin.
After beating the
likes of Kepper Timo Horn his goal became the go ahead at the end and that
sealed the deal for his Gunners to lift with the win after their comeback rally
that left the visitors cold in the pitch.
Nice win and
confidence builder ahead of the Gunners compromise on Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
