The Green Army down but not out

A glimpse of hope hovers over the horizon with another holdup for the Green Army after a disappointing loss to one goal against lone group leader Serbia.

At least that dam winning streak came to a halt abruptly but stopped, after the Republic of Ireland just posting simple draws, now it came to the decisive moment for them.

With a couple of crucial and nerve cracking matches against Moldova and closing with now second place Wales and with a point advantage after their catapult, now is a matter of how serious is O’ Neill and company to deliver.

Still not even with the home field advantage and the frantic support from the thousands on hand at the colossus of Dublin were enough to entice the Boys in Green to start something, despite the faithful Lansdowne roar to uplift their spirits.

The idea today was to deliver a fatal blow to the Serbs to jump to the top and start dreaming of Russia.

Not today and now the question arises will they seal the deal in Cardiff, after Moldova if these don’t play again the infamous role of spoilers as the way the Georgians did it to them on Saturday.

Is this team to play the always tense and contested playoffs in order to achieve something, with the squad O’ Neill and Keane have to compete, the Republic of Ireland came to this, c’mon Boys in Green!

This squad is built for much bigger and one of a kind achievements.

However, down but not out and lamenting this loss at Aviva, hopefully this serves as a lesson to the Greens that playing at home you need to be invincible and away you play with heart and an unmeasured spirit.

Especially when your foes have, ten men in the field after that red card to Nikola Maksimovic leaving the door open for many things to happen in favor of the locals and their Boss did nothing despite the moves.

This was now and the prospects of catching up Serbia who leads the Green Army in the overall group by five points will be with a couple of losses by the Balkan Boys will close out group play against Austria and Georgia.

The results that come from these matches will be important for the Republic of Ireland looking forward to a miracle and good position if these are to make the second round playoffs, one thing for sure the Austrians and Georgians will have a fan in the Eire Boys.

As they say, it is not over until it is over and in October, we will see the courage a hungry Green Army display in the field of that dynamic game that will brings them to deliver the ultimate of comebacks.

When the going gets tough it is when this squad delivers, as you recall the past EURO.

Still today’s loss is something the Greens must learn from it and no sense pointing fingers to both players and managers alike, this is a team thing, not a one man show, everyone is at fault.

With time already out and despite being down in the canvas, there is a ray of light at the end of the tunnel, will Martin O’ Neill and his Green Army deliver the ultimate of miracles, one way to found out in October.
