Cup play still is
causing a shortened schedule in the league of Ireland, seeing its final stages
and with two of its top squads heading the EA Sports Cup final celebrated in
the colossus of Dublin, Tallaght Stadium.
Still with four
matches in the agenda, we some fronts seeing action with some making notable strides
towards seeing another day in the Airtricity League, while others are destined
to accept their doom.
With the EA Sports
Cup played between the host Shamrock Rovers against Dundalk FC, many-favored
slighty the likes of the Hoops playing as locals but with some firepower left
in the Lilywhites arsenal these are still one tough foe to drop.
The score was a 3-0
rout in a match that saw a reduced Rovers squad to ten men, the visiting Lilywhites
delivered another important shield to their halls after their third intent in this
year.
With goals from David
McMillan, Patrick McEleney and Thomas Stewart, the De Town Boys showed its
mettle and class of defending champions to deny the Hoops another opportunity to
land a much-needed shield.
Going to league play,
in a match were the permanency of the Tribesmen relied in every match play from
now on, these faced off a fighting Derry City Candystripes at home in Galway
majestic Eamon Deacy Stadium.
After delivering a on
of a kind match and despite the visiting Candystripes almost pulled an upset,
the Galway Boys prevailed for the 2-1 win., were these with scores from Kevin
Devaney 14 and Stephen Folan 79.
Became enough for the
win and for the Tribesmen making a huge rise in the overall table away from the
infamous relegations positions versus a lone goal by Rory Robertson in the 32.
In United Park, the
local Drogheda United Boys are one sentenced squad for the drop, as they could
not use their home field in their advantage as an inspired Bohemians squad put
four goals past the posts of Stephen McGuinness.
With a treble from Daniel
Corcoran scoring in the 11, 42 and 64 assign to the demise of the sorry Droghs Daniel
Corcoran added the icing with the fourth goal in the 66 to the lone goal from
the locals by Sean Brennan 69.
A nice win and three
points of gold was today's result for the battling Bohs, sitting pretty in sixth
place.
At Carlisle grounds
the Bray Wanderers played host to the Limerick Blues in a game that ended even
with a goal apiece for each squad with Darragh None scoring in the 38 for Bray.
Later in the second
half came the equalizer from the visiting Limerick Blues Chiedozie Ogbene 48 to
a 1-1 draw and a share of points between these two squads.
On the Saturday match
between the Sligo Rovers and Fin Harps, these considered as a sort of Derby due
to the situation of both squads battling the demons of relegation, with the match
scheduled in Finn Park.
As the visiting Bit O’
Red deliver an important win as well a step towards their salvation well above
the danger zone, on the other hand the Harps are looking forward to delvier notable
results for their sake as well salvation.
With scores from the
Bit O’ Red Vincent Faherty 16 and later the equalizer from the home side came
from Patrick McCourt 81 that many thought that was going to be the final score.
It’s when Sligo
opportune heroics from Rhys McCabe scoring the go ahead and game winning goal
in the 90, gave his Bit O’ Red three golden points for the 2-1 win and its
salvation.
Next week finally the
SSE League of Ireland will have its full schedule and maybe we can look forward
to many surprises, go dtí an chéad uair eile agus eagrán eile de
shraith na hÉireann.
