For John Caulfield, the
City Boss he cannot believe his eyes of what his Rebel Army is going through, after
taking the league by storm and going undefeated to the majority of this
campaign, looking like the team to beat.
Now his Boys are
struggling to deliver a single win that can unleash their much-awaited
celebrations his squad has been waiting for a long time and denied in three successive
campaigns by Dundalk.
As the defending
champions had a tough start in this campaign and losing twice to the Leesiders,
this Monday will be the decisive moment for Caulfield and company as they face
off their nemesis.
In what seems to be an
important if not a crucial match, a loss from Cork City in this Derby many will
be looking at it as another setback in their celebrations.
As this weekend, the
League of Ireland got back to business after a series of interruptions due to
internal competitions in the EA Sports Cup final as well the FAI Cup knockdown
rounds.
Cork City had a match
pending in league play against Limerick at Markets Field, coming with the label
of favorites to deliver a favorable result and finally uncork the champagne,
the unexpected happened.
With an early reaction
for the home team with Rodrigo Tosi in the 7 and Shane Tracy 9, these two delivering
notable goals for the Blues in the early part of the first half, the Rebel Army
with Kieran Sadlier in the 15.
Showed off a very disputed
if not fought off half for both squads that frankly neither one deserved the
loss and for the Leesiders after the break these came out with a lot of hunger
to seal the deal and at the end succumbed to an inspired Super Blues.
With the locals Boss
Neil McDonald sending a conservative 4-1-4-1, seeing with joy how his strategy
worked wonders and delivered three golden points for his squad and at the same
time delivering a notable win in the Munster Derby.
In addition, another
great feat for McDonald and company was their permanency in the circuit for a
return to next campaign in the top circuit of the League of Ireland, as today
the Limerick initial eleven played a wondrous game of football.
As Cork City efforts
going in vain and for its Boss seeing in disbelief how a squad of the likes of
limerick created an all-around upset to the soon to be league of Ireland
Champions If these are to celebrate anytime soon.
Despite the revival
staged by the visitors in the second half looking at whatever cost to even the
score if not overcome it, the Limerick backfield did the ultimate of efforts of
delivering a preventing the visitors with a comeback rally.
At the end the
Limerick defense raise to the occasion and denied the City strikers the
opportunities and lifting the home side to a notorious and vital win in front
of its faithful and an all-around upset to the soon to be champions Cork City.
