Playing against Western
Conference foes, regardless of their position in the table and modest of a
campaign they are having, it is always a battled showdown when these come to Providence
Park.
This was the case
with the LA Galaxy coming to Town and sporting a new Boss in Sigi Schmidt
trying to level the Angelinos campaign with a win today in the colossus of
Morrison Street.
Not in addition, Mr.
Schmidt, as one thing the new Boss of the Angelino squad did not foresee the
way this Portland Timbers squad is playing their football lately with one thing
in mind, win!
As the PTFC had a
field day against the Boys from Tinsel Town, these had all of their starters in
tune and for Caleb Porter counting with a complete initial eleven to display a
one of a kind game all afternoon long.
With a return to
their old game and despite seeing a rebellious Galaxy playing a one on one game
of football at the beginning of this match, everything seem to crumble for them
when they got a goal annulled.
The locals taking the
initiative and taking the early lead with a corner kick and a header by Liam
Ridgewell returning to the lineup after sidelined with an injury.
His return to the
lineup became very notable with his plays that lead to a goal and his leadership.
In addition, the
incorporation of David Guzman in the lineup gave a boost in the Portland game
with his participation in both offense and defense, as the Costa Rican
presence in the backfield especially upgraded the Portland defensive game a
lot.
As all afternoon long
the Portland defense considered a weak spot, yesterday saw a one of a kind game
and after the arrival of Congolese defender Lary Mabialas becoming the one two punch
needed in the Timbers backfield.
Man, if this squad
played a wondrous game all afternoon long, despite the Angelinos game uprising with
the equalizer via Emmanuel Boateng defeating Roy Miller in the mark.
Here many in its sold
out attendance at Providence Park witness the new technology that MLS is working
with and after the LA the second goal scored by Gyasi Zyardes, with a careful
review by the official he annulled the goal and from here on the LA game saw
it dismay.
As all afternoon long,
Portland did not allow the LA Clan to develop their game and exercise an all-around
domination throughout the whole match and with Ridgwell, Valeri and Powell goals.
These became the
icing on the cake for the PTFC win.
These attributes show
off this squad being set and ready to display an amazing run on the final stretch
of the campaign.
Outstanding was the
way the PTFC played yesterday as everyone played as a team and contributing for
what became a great win that boost the moral and elevates the confidence of
Caleb Porter and his team altogether.
They say after the
storm calm prevails and yesterday those Portland squads in their last three
matches have netted a total of seven points and settling firmly above the red
line that enables them a spot in the postseason in the west.
So far, the Portland
Timbers and manager Caleb Porter saw how his initial eleven played with an all-around
inspiration and commitment to deliver a notable win and with an overall improvement.
Sundays win keeps the
Portland Timbers above the red line in the Western Conference with three points
away from the Vancouver Whitecaps seating in seventh place and two away from
the San Jose Quakes on sixth place.
Next week match in
Toronto, the PTFC is up and ready for another hard test on the road and against
the first placeholder in the East accompanied by its entire arsenal, a win for
sure will elevate the Rose City Boys momentum.
