One disputed weekend of action in the league of Ireland

Weekends are becoming somehow exciting in the SSE league of Ireland, with the majority of its squads preparing for show and looking forward to a strong finish and notable position.

Still the way this association is becoming as contested as ever, with one squad in John Caulfield Rebel Army not surrendering an inch of the top and so far are looking like the sure winners of this edition shield.

So far, the Leesiders are marching with a perfect record since the start of this 2017 edition and with a perfect run and looking forward not only for the league shield but finish with a perfect record at its end, will be one of the most unthinkable of feats.

With Cork City leading the overall table with 17 points lead over the defending champions Dundalk, only a miracle can deliver a fourth shield to the likes of Stephen Kenny side, trailing the City crew and the league entering in its final stages.

In this past weekend the Leesiders  were to play the likes of  troubled Drogheda United submerged deep in the bottom of the table and sure candidate for direct relegation, despite playing at home of the Droghs in United Park.

The Rebel Army did managed to get a win by a minimum difference of a goal courtesy by Stephen Dooley, as the locals were not an easy foe to tangle with but at the end succumb to the astute and opportune City squad push.
A return to Tallagh by the Shamrock Rovers was not to say a merry one, with a foe in Derry City and these two in every campaign are battling for the alst place in the European spots in the league table.

The Candystripes were the ones taking the initiative and deliver a fatal blow to Stephen Bradley and his Hoops aspirations quest of trying to escalate to third place in the league overall spots.

With goals from Aaron McEneff in the 63 and Barry McNamee in the 90, these became at the end enough for the Derry City Boys to increase their lead over the Rovers by eight points and settled in third spot.

In Dalymont at Dublin, the Bohemians and Bray Wanderers share their dose of the points with a tie at zero goals despite each squad doing the impossible of trying to deliver the winning score and three points of gold.

Nothing for nobody but for both Bray Wanderers this tie puts them one point within distance of the Hoops in fourth place and the Gypsies two points behind their cross-town nemesis, a valuable point for both squads.

Back in Oriel Park, the Lilywhites delivered an important win and from now on Kenny and company if they would like to make a move on Cork City atop the league table, these will have to deliver with a perfect run.

A win over the Limerick Blues with a 3-0 score maintains the Boys from De Town with scores from Patrick McEleney 32, Brian Gartland 53 and Robbie Benson 56, were enough to seal the deal and deliver a grand win at home.

Very well not losing home of making a leap towards the league top, even though the Rebel Army is keeping  a lead of seventeen points, the Lilywhites don’t lose hope in their quest of delivering a fourth shield.

The game of the week was the relegation Derby between Galway United and Finn Harps; the Tribesmen were inspired and playing hungry to deliver a fatal blow to the Harps momentum.

With the visitors three-goal rout with scores from Gavan Holohan 13 and a double from Ronan Murray 76 and 84 to deliver three points of gold for Shane Keegan and his Untied bunch as well keeping a close chase on the Harps.

Despite the lone score from Eddie Dsane 45 for the local Harps, it was not enough to prevent the loss and allow their foes to be within two points of ninth place, held by the Finn Harps and by far looking to be a very tight race between these two squads.

To close the week on Saturday the Sligo Rovers were to host Liam Buckley Saint Patrick’s squads at the Showgrounds and with a draw at the end both squads sharing the pints for the better in the case of the Pats.

However, for the Bit O’ Red this points does not do any effect in their fight of avoiding relegation and still seeded in eleventh place with just 24 points and with a grim look in what is their future in the top flight of the league of Ireland.
