Suddenly the million-dollar
man Frank Lampard is playing a one of a kind football and in this afternoon,
all of a sudden we have to see the type of game displayed by the former Citizen
striker. There was once a post that spoke about the former Chelsea and Man City
striker since coming to play in MLS that mentioned about his game being a devaluated.
Not for Frank Lampard
suddenly embarked on a scoring streak since June if I recall, with eight goals
netted so far and looking like there is nothing stopping this chap anytime
soon.
In today’s match the
NYCFC did not had in its eleven the likes of striker David Villa that was not a
problem for the English lad who really performed to his standards as well lead
his squad to a shootout that Colorado will not forget for quite some time. As the
scoring machine of Villa got a suspension, it was the maestro to come out alive
and kicking with style.
A match considered like
a preview of what can be this year’s Major League Soccer final between the Rapids
and New York squad, as the Big Apple Boys had in its helm Viera’s Assistant who
too was in the naughty list with a ban. It was one day where Chris Lattanzio
the assistant who enjoyed it very much how his eleven and strategies were well
placed and responded for today.
With a variety of
improvisations and sending a 4-3-3 formation with Tony Taylor in substitution
for Villa flanked by Mc Namara and Harrison in the attack- alongside of getting
their midfield with Lampard, Pirlo and Iraola in the middle. The NYCFC was to
play a very tough match and against a rival of all calibers and coming to
Yankee Stadium with one of the best defenses in all of MLS, not counting keeper
Howard taking care of the Coloradoans posts.
Still one-thing leads
to another as the locals started with a certain dominance over the Rapids who
did not showed off any opposition or danger to Saunders posts until the end of
the match.
Since the first minute, the Sky Blues never stopped in their intent of
displaying its desires of getting into the scoreboard, until the 28th
when the Colorado defense failed to clear the ball from the area, when Gazi
scored the lone goal in the 90th minute.
The NYCFC with Andoni
Iraola getting the ball and creating a pass on the left, with Andrea Pirlo not
touching the ball and creating a screen for Diego Martinez to send a volley
that Lampard just pushed the ball for the 1-0.
The second goal came
in the 42nd by Tony Taylor pushing the ball for the 2-0, going ahead
in halftime, the NYCFC was not done and once gain started the delivering mayhem
towards the Rapids backfield, that was playing with just 10 men. Then David
Mendoza doing a nice individual play put the score at 3-0, setting up another
play where Frank Lampard put the 4-0 and 5-0 via a PK.
With this win, the
NYCFC record improves to 10-7-6 and in sole possession in first place with 36
points and next week to play at Avaya Stadium against San Jose on a Friday night
match.
Despite the loss last
week against NYRB in the Big Apple Derby, the American version of the Sky Blues
who are looking good and heading to their first postseason if they continue displaying
their one of a kind football.
As their next match the
Boys of the NYCFC will have their complete eleven in the field, still playing
at Avaya Stadium is somehow difficult for many squads and for the Big Apple
Boys that will have their hands full against the Quakes.
Nothing is impossible
if they have once again an inspired Frank Lampard and David Villa playing altogether
and their all-around scoring streaks active, for now the New Yorker's have a
great deal to make it happen and looking forward to a banner of a campaign.
