Finally, a New York Derby painted Blue

Yankee Stadium was the site to host the always contested edition of the New York Derby between the NYCFC and their cross the pike rivals the New York Red Bulls. I mean despite the one sided matches and dominance of the Red Bulls since the start of this rivalry and arrival of the NYCFC in Major League Soccer.

The Big Apple Derbies somehow become a bit contested, not only both of these initial elevens in the field but also for their followers, who are really becoming very passionate and at times violence has become visible whenever these matches are celebrated.  As the NYCFC recalled that horrendous and humiliating 7-0 loss back in May, the Bronx Boys were ready to return the favor with a win.

This time the Red Bulls saw in a dominating American version of the Sky Blues, who really took a plus of their home field advantage, very well making a mockery of the Jersey Boys backfield and its top rated keeper a living hell under his posts.

So far, the 4-3-3 formation that first year man at the helm of the NYCFC Patrick Viera worked as expected, by sending a trio of aces to the front in David Villa, in the center and surrounded by Tommy Mc Namara and Jack Harrison. As rookie sensation Harrison with today’s performance, he indeed he is on his way to be touted as a serious candidate for Rookie of the Year Award.

As the way this match was planned intelligently by the NYCFC Manager Patrick Vieira, especially when he switched strategies and a new game contrary to the previous encounter with the Red Bulls. This the NYCFC Boss showed off his arsenal doing what they do best.

Showing off at the end by getting a positive result with a couple of scores one in the opening minutes and with eight in the clock is when Jack Harrison opened the hostilities and giving his squad the lead. Then with a one two between both Jack Harrison passing a centered and accurate ball to David Villa feet, this one pushed the ball for what became the winning goal in the 66th minute.

A win is a win and for the Red Bulls Manager Jesse Marsch it is back to the drawing board and make his moves in his initial eleven filled with key players in the DL and with another tough match to host the defending MLS champions Portland Timbers.

As the whole of Yankee Stadium covered, all in Blue celebrated loudly how their NYCFC did it with style and silenced their rivals from cross the Hudson, one thing for sure is that Patrick Vieira did see his efforts crowned with Jack Harrison’s superb performance.

Seeing how their number one draft pick of this year selections is paying off with meritorious performances, excellent technique, and game showing so far in this campaign as well learning from his maestro David Villa.

As the NYCFC had a field day, for the Red Bulls had a miserable scoreboard and in the field when they saw Chris Duvall leaving the match with two yellow cards, seeing red and leaving his squad with ten men.

A win is a win that puts the Sky Blues in first place with 27 points and a record of seven wins, five losses and six losses for the year and within five points for the chase for the Supporters Shield held currently by the Colorado Rapids. Finally, it was time that New York buildings lighted in Blue.
