Stop it Diego, you must stop killing those Rave Greens

What day the Timbers lead man, Diego Valeri had with a double dose of goals over the visiting Seattle Sounders in their first meeting of the year in the so-called Cascadia Derby.

With this match, the PTFC extended its streak without seeing defeat to nine, after their main man return on a 3-1 rout of their I-5 foes.

Call it inspired or great day, but for Valeri’s feat and all around inspiration in the midfield, injecting his enthusiasm to his teammates, to deliver a key win.

Another stellar performance too was from Lucas Melano who is finding his way in the Timbers initial eleven, who has been accurate with his passing game and today his accurate participation , he provided a one two punch for his squad win.

As in the 44th minute after passing between Lucas and Diego, his opened the Rave Greens defense and for Diego to complete the feat with a kick going wide left for the visitors keeper Frei being too far to reach the ball for the first goal of the match.

This play suddenly sent the whole of Providence Park into frenzy state, with the local’s followers dancing and celebrating their squad all around feat in what seemed a very tense and at times physical match.

Not even six minutes passed when Diego Valeri once again testing the Sounders defense all of a sudden what look like just a simple shoot, suddenly the ball enters through the corner and once again out of the reach of the Sounders keeper for the second score in the afternoon.

Still the match was in its early stages despite being in the second quarter, when Seattle went on the task of testing Jake Gleeson reflexes and moves by constantly harassing his posts. It is here when the Timbers defenders raise to the occasion and never allowed the visitors strikers any liberties.

Alongside of Jordan Morris and Nelson Valdez missing two near goals, that at the end the Timbers keeper never saw any more of these chaps as threats, until Chad Marshall took the merits of Gleason previously making a monstrous save, the Seattle defender score the lone goal in the 59th.

After putting his squad in the scoreboard, the Portland Timbers 11 went on the task of putting icing on the cake, with a Melano taking a mark of four Seattle players inside the area and then passing to Adi in a one two combination for what became the go-ahead goal and winner in the 64th.

Today’s win puts the PTFC with a record of seven wins, six losses and eight draws, catapults them to sixth place above the red line tied in points with the Vancouver Whitecaps and with two points above SKC and with their next match on Saturday against a resurgent LA Galaxy.

Despite the early misses by Lucas Melano to put the scoreboard in favor, his participation once again shined on offensively, alongside Darlington Nagbe, Diego Chara and Captain Jack Jewbury who each ones contribution helped the Timbers come ahead in this match.

At the end, Portland netting three points is a golden gain and once again being above the red line and tied with the Vancouver Whitecaps in the race of Cascadia Cup. The Rose City squad next mission is to net another three points at the expense of their next rivals the LA Galaxy art Providence Park on Saturday July 23.

For now Timbers Manager Caleb Porter will savor his Boys all around feat and win ahead of their next encounter against a resurgent and star filled squad in the Tinsel Town Boys, a win is a win and today was one amazing one.
