The one and only Manager
of then expansion squad, the Seattle Sounders, ever since their inception to
Major League Soccer back in 2009. The great Sigi Schmidt, his time and tenure
came to an abrupt end today- after an eight-year appointment.
It is not easy to
come to terms or take a decision of that magnitude as well move forward in what
you think is of the best of your club as the Rave Greens front office top brass-
proceeded to announce the inevitable and hard news.
As both parties by
their own accord ended up their relation and now move forward.
For now, the role of
interim Boss will rely on USL Sounders 2 Brian Schmetzer who will have a tough
task ahead, putting some order in Seattle’s troubled eleven, and rekindle that
winning spark lost but not because of Sigi’s fault. That is soccer to you one
day you can ride on the horns of the moon and the next you can see your luck
taking off for the worst.
Still the way this campaign
started and so far is going for the Seattle Sounders is not only one-man at
fault but a whole organization that showed some apathy at the beginning of this
campaign in not getting the ideal men to reinforce this club eleven. The departure
of Obafemi Martins to Chinas emerging football league sent a message to this
club in replacing the Nigerian ASAP.
As nothing was done
and showing total indifference to this matter by the club top brass, the 2016
campaign continue its course and suddenly the results were evidently seen since
day one, as a first to the Sounders this club had a losing streak as well odd
start. Being this a first in their history of this club since coming to play in
Major League Soccer.
Sigi Schmidt since
day one as the Sounders Boss has been a hero and a mentor that brought the game
to Emerald City and gave it a winning trait as an overall trademark of his work
and overall accomplishments that speak for themselves.
With a long list of
accomplishments, Sigi Schmidt since taking over then first year at the helm of this squad, the Sounders never
missed their postseason appearances and among a couple of times just being on
the edge of attending their first ever final.
As well seeing these
club accomplishments of four US Open Cups trophies, Supporters Shield and two Cascadia
Cups to his long list of trophies earned, thanks to Sigi the Seattle Sounders
became a much-contested squad and always starring as a headliner in MLS circles.
Despite never winning
the big one, under Sigi Schmidt the Rave Greens became also the top attendance
squad an honor never surrendered by this club until these days.
At the end for many
followers of the game and the Sounders will disagree as well being in disbelief
of the verdict emitted by this club ownership, still this was something coming possibly
after the results and failed championship runs.
Very well its losing
streak reaching three matches, despite making a statement a couple of weeks
before the Cascadia Derby after sending a message to its I- 5 neighbors to the
south in a 5-0 rout over first place Dallas.
The prospects of
netting a much needed win and one that has all around bragging rights in the always
contested and spectacular Cascadia Derby, his squad fell to an inspired
Portland Timbers squad that defeated them at home in Providence Park to a 3-1
rout. US Open Cup elimination against the LA Galaxy and on Sunday a poor
performance at Kansas City to a 3-0 rout in league play when they were out-shut
16-1.
As they state, the
show must go on and despite the infamy of Sigi Schmidt firing, maybe for the club
think tanks this hard thought conclusion came in a time of change for this club
helm and maybe looking forward to a new era and direction for their trouble
club in this campaign.
Time will be this
club best ally, the goal for now is to salvage the campaign and try to make a
run to the league postseason, this is something to see if this club can come
with the ideal man to lead its helm.
