Last night match against
the Montreal Impact, Manager Caleb Porter sent an attacking formation with two
of its prime strikers in Faneando Adi and Jack Mc Inerney to start an offensive
mayhem over the visiting Impact.
As the move for
Porter and his Timbers paid off in the first half, very well he thought the
home field advantage was going to influence in the score and net those elusive
three points. The problem that the Impact really placed its backfield put and
never allowed the local PTFC Boys any opportunities or liberties to get the go-ahead
goal.
For the 4-4-2
formation sent by Caleb Porter and making his usual moves in his initial eleven,
the Chessmaster put on another great group in the field, pressuring and netting
in the opening minutes that became the opening goal that could been the victor.
After all the PTFC backfield, is becoming a force not to be messing with and within
the area defended by Gleeson.
Once again, Jake
Gleeson the Timbers keeper had another stellar evening under his posts and the
one that prevented its fall by stopping the Impact attack and its strikers
among one shoot performed by Piatti in the second half.
The unfortunate side is when you have a
dynamic, persistent and best player in Major League Soccer in the likes of
Ignacio Piatti, despite of the Le Gars of Montreal not having Didier Drogba in
the lineup.
Still the Andean can
did marvelous things with his Montreal Boys and he can be one tough cookie to
stop in the field, considered by many as a one-man show, which I do applaud this
chap efforts.
ng the area, he got up and showing off his efforts by taking with
him two of the Timbers prime defenders in Alvas Powell and Nate Borchers who
could not stop him in his efforts and scoring
the equalizer before the first half came to an end.
As the Timbers
midfield persistently tried in the second half to put some kind of offensive attack,
it is the Montreal defenses that despite seeing international Laurent Ciman
leave with an injury in the second half, still the Impact became very defensively.
Still one positive
was the constant persistence by Lucas Melano orchestrating a possible offensive
attack, his initiative is one amazing gift but in these cases, you need to finish
what you started. Especially the passing game in the area to penetrate it needs
to be with the element of surprise not seen last night, as the attack was very
passive and the passing very off target.
The PTFC attack does
not need to only attached and dependent on its talisman man Diego Valeri,
whenever he is injured, it is when the rest of the crew needs to deliver and
get it done by lifting its ambition and drive to win. The need to give its
attack a notch is something imperative if this club needs to defend its hard
fought crown.
Still with their Sunday
game at New York, the PTFC with their midweek match, was not to play like it
was fatigued and overwhelmed, as some plays the Rose City Boys looked a bit disoriented
especially the fast pace passing done by Melano or even Zemanksi to their
strikers core.
Although the Portland
squad could not generate an attack, the squad continued its unbeaten streak and
raising it to eight matches but just one point to account in this match, still
their tie with both SKC and its Cascadia foes the Vancouver Whitecaps is long gone.
For now, the Rose
City squad possibly will have both of its midfield aces for their Cascadia
Derby against the Seattle Sounders that won’t have Clint Dempsey in the lineup
due to red card, a win over their I- 5 foes and later in the week the LA Galaxy.
Can be one marvelous thing to happen to the PTFC and make some moves to the
Western Conference top.
At the end Portland
Timbers game needs more speed and technique to finish up its attack and become
more aggressive in it as well ambitious, that’s it, this club is playing
wondrous football it only needs a to refine and raised it a little bit more.
