No, break for the Rave
Greens, not even at home as well for their Manager Sigi Schmidt, who so far is
seeing losses mount in this campaign and putting his mind into overdrive. So far,
this loss at Century Link Field today is a fifth and a rare one to digest,
especially if it is at home.
Many of the followers
of the Emerald City were looking forward with Deuce in its starting eleven with
their Boy wonder Jordan Morris to make things happen offensively and net a
defeat to the visiting Angelinos.
Still for the LA
Galaxy coming with an almost complete eleven just missing Cole and De Jong, the
Boys from Tinsel Town were ready to start making things happen and make their
move towards the Western Conference top.
After the Sounders
amazing win in the Open Cup and eliminating a hardened Real Salt Lake, this win
was to become a shoot in the arm for the Rave Greens.
With today’s loss,
the Seattle Sounders situated in a very uncomfortable position in the Western Conference,
as many at the Sounders organization are asking themselves for many answers to
an odd campaign. With a league record of five wins, 10 losses and 2 draws, not
many points earn via the draw matches, but their losing record is becoming a
bit repetitive and things do not look so good for the Sounders Manager.
The Sounders are in a
desperate way of finding the right formula to start generating some much-needed
wins and start adding on some points in their favor if they are looking forward
to be in this year’s postseason. Something this squad despite the oddities they
go through in every campaign, they have never failed to be out of the grand
fete of the playoffs.
In today’s match the visiting
Galaxy did the ultimate of feats and with an accurate Robbie Keane who came on
target, his lone goal was enough to give his squad and goalie a clean sheet. As
the pupils of Bruce Arena played with such heart and kudos to his defense that did
an immaculate job in keeping several of the local Seattleites strikers at bay.
With the tale of the
tape in favor of the Sounders, with 22 shoot aimed at the posts defended by LA
keeper Brian Rowe, who really deserved the man of the match award for such
awesome job defending his squad lead. Very well, the local squad had the advantage
in the overall statistics.
The Sounder strikers
and other players did had the opportunity and among one of them was Clint
Dempsey being so close to net the equalizer and the opportunity vanished in front
of his eyes. Another opportunity came when the visitor’s keeper was away from
his posts and defender AJ De la Garza prevented a clear goal.
With a match
dominated in its entirety by the Seattle squad, many questions arise of why today’s
match was not a win, when the home team approached the visiting posts in
several occasions and never delivered the final blows.
This negative streak
is a call for action for the Seattle Sounders top brass to start looking for
solutions to end the negative skid this club so far immersed in and to open up
their wallet in order to assemble a winning squad. Especially now when the league
after its All-star break will become one very contested entity and the Sounders
to among those squads is in need to fill some spots in its lineup with a
defender, attacking winger and another striker.
With some local Seattle
tabloids and radio personalities seeing a possible danger for Sigi Schmidt
tenure, I don’t think it’s the Manager to be at fault but the club is in need
to reinforce many areas as above mentioned. They need to make it into a top priority
to reinforce many spots in their eleven as well replace the likes of Oba
Martins and start that lost spark in the offense, something that Dempsey and
Morris alone cannot do.
Unthinkable that the
Seattle Sounders are going through this negative and already speaking of
letting their Boss go, this squad needs to be less stingy and get players that
will produce in the upcoming run to get above the red line of the postseason.
