You bet on it, as
John Caufield Cork City Boss is living the dream with his Leesiders after
making an all-around statement in the second round of the UEFA Europa League.
With a 1-0 win at Turners Cross over
Swedish side BK Hacken, the Rebel Army did the ultimate of feats to advance
into their first ever third round pass.
History in the making
is what City is doing in this edition of the UEFA Europa league playoffs and
with one of a kind performances, the Allsvenskan killers are looking forward to
their next meeting against Belgium side Genk.
After defeating IFK
Gothenburg in the first round and now BK Hacken in the second, Cork City is
poised for more achievements in this tournament nearing the coveted stage group
to play the big guns but only one squad stands in their way.
As this squad so far
is making a wonderful run in their domestic league and now in the European
front, maybe we can see the possibility of an Irish squad playing in these
types of competitions, something that has not seen for quite a while. As their
Airtricty counterparts Dundalk FC are doing an excellent job in Champions
League, the prospects of these are within reach of the stage group.
Still for John
Caufield the Rebel Army Boss, he has to institute a little patient with his squad
and not let his eleven become too comfortable so far with the achievements
forged, as their next rounds and squads to play will be a bit challenging.
So far, for Cork City
living the dream and thanks in part to the work performed by its Boss since
taking over and so far has delivered for the Leesiders and with maybe more to
come.
With the recent
performance against BK Hacken at Bravida Arena where the Rebel Army got a draw
but with the away goal and the lonely one done by Kevin O’ Connor at Turners
Cross, the deal was seal for now.
For now, the City
Boys will have to prepare for their upcoming match scheduled at KRC Genk Arena
on July 28 and the second leg on Turners Field on August 4.
Luckily, all of Cork
City FC league compromises been put on hold and gives them a better opportunity
to prepare themselves and get ready to front what it seems as a total unknown
rival to play and decipher its game and strategies.
At the end, the
wonderful goal from O’ Connor delivers the win and his squad satisfaction of advancing
into the next rounds as well writing its own history along of netting a hefty
pay of £ 220,000 for such accomplishment.
The Leesiders for now
considered heavily favorites to make things happen and advance into the coveted
stage group and become Airtricity’s sole representative and bring to Turners
Cross the emotion of Europa League.
