This week in the
league of Ireland seeing its conclusion after a lengthy campaign and Cup competitions,
and the drama of a squad going down and two that made it a feat of staying put
in the top league.
Highlighted a very contested
and exciting league of Ireland and now waiting for next campaign how many of its
squads will be reinforcing themselves towards 2018.
Finally, we can say
that the Cork City crew celebrated aloud their Aitricity Shield after a 1-0 win
over a battling and competitive Bray Wanderers squad coming to close the
campaign at Turners Cross.
With a lone goal
scored by the Rebel Army Conor McCormack in the 21 minute, that score was
enough for the Leesiders to seal the deal and after the match celebrate like
true champions their feat of dethroning the likes of three time champions
Dundalk FC.
Now for John
Caulfield the City Boss is looking forward to add another shield to his Boys collection
and for Turners Cross halls, with the Daily Mail FAI Cup to be play on November
5 at Aviva Stadium, against Dundalk FC.
After the winter break,
Caulfield and the club directives must get together on the eve of next campaign
to reinforce the club to make a decent stand this time in the next Champions
League rounds and defend their title successfully.
At Eamon Deacy Park,
the local Galway United Boys and their Boss Shane Keegan were looking for a
positive result to keep put in the top flight and see another day in the
Aitricity League of Ireland, but the visiting Dundalk was not going to give in.
As this match became
a goal fest, with seven scored between both squads, as the locals with and
early goal by Stephen Folan on the 9-minute putting the Tribesmen ahead and sending
Deacy Park into frenzy headed the opening fireworks.
Still the visiting Lilywhites
resilience put in display with the tying goal with just a minute passed by
Niclas Vemmelund in the 10 minute putting a damp mood to those in attendance,
as Dundalk went up the break with a two-goal lead.
With scores Jamie
McGrath 41 and Patrick McEleney 45, still this match was to set a new tone with
the Tribesmen scores in the 53 by Rory McHale as the locals suddenly started a
revival and dominating the match with a 3-2 score.
As the pressure increased
by the locals came the equalizer by Ronan Murray in the 89 minute to put the
score at 3-3 and a few minutes left giving a mathematical possibility for the locals
bunch but still the win would be the ideal.
Came on the 90 minute
when Dundalk took advantage of an error by the Galway defense to score the heartbreaker
via Michael Duffy the goal that sent this group packing towards the first division
and now fight their way for next campaign to net a promotion.
In Tallaght Stadium,
the Shamrock Rovers won a notable game over the visiting Limerick Blues assuring
the league third spot and the last European spot, after a dull first half
ending with zero goals.
With the second half scoring
for the locals Hoops Brandon Miele 53 and Ronan Finn 58, the rovers seal the
deal despite a late goal by the Blues Colm Walsh O’ Loughlen in the 80, the
Rovers persever defensively and hold on for the win.
In Dalymont Park the
local Bohemians close the campaign with a win over a decimated and relegation
prone Finn Harps, seeing this match as a one sided affair in favor of the Gypsies
and planning for next campaign to search a better finish.
With scores from
Daniel Corcoran 29, Ishmail Akinade 62 and Jamie Hamilton 66 that was enough
for the Bohs to close their last match of the campaign in a positive, despite
Ian Morris own goal in the 75.
United Park saw how their
Droghs and visiting Bit O’ Red Sligo Rovers tied at no goals with the score and
share of points the Drogheda United side already resigned to relegation and
start a new campaign in the first division.
For the other Rovers,
the results keeps the Bit O’ Red put in the ranks of the Premier League of
Ireland and see the light of another campaign in the big circuit.
The last match between
Derry City and Saint Patrick’s Athletic ended up with a 1-1 tie at Maginn Park
in Buncrana putting away the hopes of the Candystripes of a win and a finish in
third spot and for the Pats a win or tie would been the appropriate result for
their salvation.
With an early Saints
goal in the 26 minute by Killian Brennan to put the visitors up in the score,
the locals via Rory Patterson in the 48 tied the match at one goal and stayed the
same throughout the end of the match.
At the end of the match
for both Pats and Bit O’ Red, the results favored them after knowing the faith of
the Tribemen and plan for next campaign making a spectacular performance.
Until next campaign
and to see who will be the winner of next edition of the league of Ireland as
the Leesiders of Cork City are somehow a doubt to repeat if they don’t reinforce
their side and find an ideal substitute for Kevin O’ Connor and especially Sean
Maguire.
Very well, for the
Lilywhites looking forward to cover the spots left by Darryl Horgan, Andy Boyle
and Ciaran Kilduff with new blood will be the impossible task for manager Stephen
Kenny in his quest to regain the league of Ireland shield once more.
